Interview Aura Hiemis

Hi! Please introduce Aura Hiemis to the readers.

Aura HiemiS was born in the year 2005 was the year I pick up the name and choose the songs to be récorded in the first álbum. I start alone as a one-man project, Even always had help. It has been a whole band, duet, one man alone again and now a band for the last year.

Aura has 4 albums and 2 splits. I’d like to Say that is funeral death Doom Even started more like a gothic death Doom… I want it to be funeral hahaha

How is it easy to live and survive in Chile?

It’s not easier than other countries, not sure how much difficult it could be, it’s about perseverance

Is there strong metal scene or just attempts to have some strong scene?

Exist an scene, there are bands, places, labels, but no more strong than years ago. i would Say that is an stable scene but not more strong than his weakest link

When did you start writing music – and what or who were your early passions and influences?

I started to write things in year 1996. The early influences were bands like Metallica megadeth pantera, things i could hear in the radio. In some moment i could buy music and get more things that change perspective. Bands like yearning, poema arcanus, my dying bride, forest of shadows.

What are your main impulses to write metal music?

It’s a natural and unnamed desire. You see a guitar or a mic and you know you want it, no matter what you do with it, you want to try, to learn. but metal, is a thing of like, you like it or not. I listen to it so once i start writing was the natural path. was natural and still is.

What do you personally consider to be the incisive moments and pieces in your musical work?

Hard to know, everything is important. Personally one of the most important moment was when i realize i could do growls. Of corse it change all the plans. About pieces, every álbum i writed, récorded it’s important, but i think that “while the resto of the world sleep” has the biggest energy and emotional Charge. I’m not saying is the best… Even it could be hahaha

How would you describe and rate the music scene of the city you are currently living in?

Is a Hard scene, especially if you don’t make the popular kind of metal. It’s a poor scene, al expensive, complicated, without retribution.

I’ll rate it like a 4 of 10. It sucks but exist and you can do things if you really want, no waiting support and paying by yourself hahaha

When it comes to be musician, what are your criteria for quality? What are currently your main challenges and ambitions as a musician?

I try to do the best i can pay: studios, guitars, equipment, etc. But we are realistic too. We don’t need a 2 thousands dollars esp guitar to play in a fucking 3×3 mts bar, or a Peavey of 100w with 2 4×12 cabs, there is no space xD

So we have good enough shits, enough to us and make good albums. As a musician right now i just want to récord all the albums i have written and hopefully play outside my country.

What do you usually start with when working on a new song or lyrics?

I start always with the Main guitar, a simple drum base and all the rest come alone.

Tell us a bit about the selection process for deciding on what to write about, please. What sources will you draw from for research purposes and how much time goes into research, gathering altogether in general?

It’s more simple and Boring for you to know.

I just write about what i think in the moment i hear the music i’ve done. i let my mind fly and i just write, that is why my lírycs are really simple hahaha and i do them alone

As more and more people are producing and releasing music, there has been an exponential growth in promotion agencies. What’s your perspective on the promo system? In how far do you feel it is possibly undermining musical freedom?

I don’t really look so much about that, we use the basic ways, now is YouTube and Facebook for us, the labels use more promotion, things like band camp or Spotify.

The musical Freedom it’s owned by the musician, if they give rights to labels or companies or Spotify or whatever, is their choice is his Freedom to use or not the media systems scene have changed considerably over the past century. What, do you feel, could – or should – be new forms and formats for music? And, should we save old-school spirit or just go forward together with musical ‘evolution’ (‘degradation’)?

The online apps to listen music are the Main way Now And of course it Will be for a long time. We are lazy humans and that is the easier way yo get music. It’s a good way if the band gets money from it. I hope the cd and tape and Vinyl never stop to be manufactured. Physical shits it’s important to conect, to stay in reality. Musical evolution Will be in what you play or write, while some one stay writing and performing music, music Will be the same that always.

Music-sharing sites and blogs as well as a flood of releases in general are killing music. What’s your view on this topic?

Are killing music or killing profits for big labels?

It’s a way to know music, i love a band from the other half of the world, here i can’t find where to buy their albums, are too much expensive to bring the cd, i download to hear and i’m sure once i can i Will buy the album. Also, Personally, i don’t do music to earn money, i want people to listen to it, so upload it, share it, all that. If it likes they Will buy an álbum and label Will get money.

Please recommend two bands to our readers which you feel deserve their attention.

A sad bada and wolfheart

What are your plans for near future?

we are slowly recording a new álbum so finish it it’s the plan now

Thank you, see you next time!

Thanks You!!! Salud!!
