Interview Absence Betrayal

Hi! Please introduce Absence Betrayal to the readers.

The project Absence Betrayal was formed after the freezing of the Escadaia project. I (Andrey Baranov) decided to finish my musical activity and do something else, but after some time, the craving to write music took over and I began to compose songs just to throw out my energy. After recording the song When the sun goes out, I showed it to a few people who were impressed with my work and convinced me not to give up and release the album. Absence Betrayal is a solo project of one person.

Tell us more about “Emotions”.

What can I say much about him … The name of the album has no concept, I called it so because during its creation I was overwhelmed with many different emotions, and therefore on the album many tracks turned out to be diverse. I also included a few songs in it that I wrote for the group Escadaia, so in some songs you can catch the similarities between the project Absence Betrayal and Escadaia.

When did you start writing music – and what or who were your early passions and influences?

I wrote my first composition in 2010, then I was 18 years old. At that time I was fond of various extreme music and I can’t say who inspired me at that time.

What are your main impulses to write metal music?

I do not quite understand this question. If we are talking about the reason for writing metal music, then this is not explained by words, I just love that kind of music, but if we are talking about that inspires me, then it also does not explain with words ha ha!

What do you personally consider to be the incisive moments and pieces in your musical work?

Sincerity. I write only music that I like myself, but it can be in different directions and I will not bother and adjust it to any genre standards.

How would you describe and rate the music scene of the city you are currently living in?

Utopia.

When it comes to be musician, what are your criteria for quality? What are currently your main challenges and ambitions as a musician?

Pure, professional and EMOTIONAL instrument playing.

What do you usually start with when working on a new song or lyrics?

I never think about it, it is always in different ways.

As more and more people are producing and releasing music, there has been an exponential growth in promotion agencies. What’s your perspective on the promo system? In how far do you feel it is possibly undermining musical freedom?

I have not come across this and therefore I have nothing to answer this question.

Metal scene have changed considerably over the past century. What, do you feel, could – or should – be new forms and formats for music? And, should we save old-school spirit or just go forward together with musical ‘evolution’ (‘degradation’)?

I’m just an old-school lover, but the new formats are taking place, this is creativity, why not?

Music-sharing sites and blogs as well as a flood of releases in general are killing music. What’s your view on this topic?

My opinion is this: strong quality control is needed, most releases and websites produce a lot of non-quality content because of which good releases are simply lost in this shit.

Please recommend two bands to our readers which you feel deserve their attention.

I try not to share my musical tastes and therefore I do not want to answer this question, sorry.

What are your plans for near future?

I have plans to arrange a tour of Europe and I hope that it will succeed.

Thank you, see you next time!

Goodbye.
