Interview Those Who Bring the Torture

Hi! Tell me about Those Who Bring the Torture. Why did you decide to name the band with such title? What kind of ideas do you explore?

At first I was purely a grind/death band, and the name fits haha, I really today still love the name myself.

“Pain Offerings” album was released end of June. How does that make you feel? Do you feel you have put album into masses without any wishes to change something now?

Through the years, from the third album and onwards we have developed our sound, and this time I think we achieved reallt what we wanted, more epic death metal, still raging and ugly and heavy but less grind and more lets say in the vein of Hypocrisy perhaps.

Tell me more about “Pain Offerings”? Album ideas etc…

The music has been evolving the last years, and we arrived at our current sound a few albums back. THis is the eptiome of it I could say soundwise. The lyrics are very personal, for once. As I wrote the whole album and its lyrics in just one week, when I had a period when i was very very low, and on the verge of being utterly sick in the sould I can confess. So its for once a total outlet of my emotions, even if it maybe doesnt sound very different from nay other TWBTT album for them past years.

Where do you take all inspiration from?

I dont know. I just sit down and play haha. A couple days ago I had 15 minutes to spare before going out with the kids, and in those 15 minutes I wrote and recorded 16 riffs for 4 songs. So I have no idea where it comes from.

In your opinion, what is the best way to define Those Who Bring the Torture’s sound?

The early works is death/grind, nothing more nothing less. The later albums is epic death metal, thats how I would descrobe it. With epic meaning we are both heavy, melodic, groovy and aggressive still.

So, are you on hiatus now, just relaxed and looking for album feedbacks, or did you started to compose new stuff immediately?

Yes now its back to one haha. We always do that, evaluate the new album after its out, and then we plan for new stuff much later.

What are your main musical influences? How huge is their influence in your sound?

Hmmm, most Swedish and British death metal perhaps, but also the simpler US stuff. I think you can trace much how TWBTT sounds now to the albums we like best from Hypocrisy really, the basic style that mixes everything, as long as its still hard and dark.

Is there some well-known musician in particular that you would like to use in one of your upcoming albums?

Well I wouldn’t say no to a duet with Peter Tägtgren haha. Or Chris BArnes, I think both guys could do something fun and cool on a TWBTT song.

What is your personal strategy for making your music heard by a larger audience?

Im very bad at that, marketing myself… My labels must hate me for that haha. Im not a very socila person, or not good at all with websites etc. I do all interviews they give me though, and answer all fans mails, thats what I can do.

Do you have any other hobby beside music?

The usual stuff I guess, being with the family, movies, good food, barbeque and beer. Im simple that way haha.

Are you all supported by your relatives towards your devotion to music?

Yes I would say that indeed, I have never heard anyone in the band or any other band of mine that has had any probhlems at all for playing this sort of music. More the other way around, that people are happy and proud about it. Maybe they dont understand it haha, but its fun for them too.

Is it easy to play gigs, to buy records etc there these days for you?

In Sweden? Yes, as in all countries record stores are not many anymore, internet is killing it all. But gigs are happening, mostly in larger towns, but thats how its always been. Sweden is very small, and we have not too many bigger cities with bigger scenes.

Thank you for answering my questions, see ya on the road!
