Interview Fallen Angels

Hi! Tell me about Fallen Angels. Why did you decide to name the band with such title? What kind of ideas do you explore?

The name of our band derives mainly from the Poison song “Fallen Angel” with the simple addition of the plural “s”. It is also an expression that is also used in some lyrics of the bands we are inspired, see the “Wild Side” of Motley Crue … We find it a lot of eighties … The idea behind the Fallen Angels project is that of wanting to bring back and revive the glam rock genre of the mid 80’s that has marked our lives and that even today you listen to on the radio.

“Even Priest Knows” album was released on April. How does that make you feel? Do you feel you have put album into masses without any wishes to change something now?

We are very happy with our first album! It was been a group work that has involved us for several months and the result is what we were looking for: being able to bring back the rock atmosphere of the mid 80’s. In the months in which we have worked on the album we have been searched and tried different types of sounds or effects that could make our record play at the levels of historically most important records of the glam rock genre and we must say that the result achieved satisfies us completely! No we would not change anything about how our record sounds.

Tell me more about “Even Priest Knows”? Album ideas etc…

Even Priest Knows is an album of 10 tracks very various, from direct songs to real reflections on modern society, touching topics such as loneliness, war, alienation, viciousness, themes with a simple appearance but surrounded by multiple meanings, sometimes with unruly peaks of sinfulness and esotericism, all surrounded by riffs of pure rock ‘n roll and sharp melodies. In the disc the sound touches different shades of the 80’s period (pop, rock, metal, blues …), but never untie from its genre. It ‘a record that does not want to make a copy paste of a song but wants to pay homage in the complex to the 80’s.

Where do you take all inspiration from?

The work of writing a song takes place all together in the rehearsal room. Ste Wizard mainly reports some of his ideas or riffs which are then elaborated and modified to allow the composition of the song. Both Matthew and Luke then create the rhythmic line always in agreement with the other members of the band. Important is the completion work with the melodic lines of our singer Matty that completes the circle with his vocal abilities.

In your opinion, what is the best way to define Fallen Angels’s sound?

Our sound is certainly not new and we do not even want to believe that we are the forerunners of a new genre. We know very well that our record sounds like already heard but that’s exactly what we want to express with our music! The sound of Even Priest Knows is a desire to recall and let the eighties rockers to find the atmosphere that is missing today but that has remained etched in their minds! We want those who listen and fall in love with the glam / hard rock genre find in our album the same energy as any other disco of the late 80s.

So, are you on hiatus now, just relaxed and looking for album feedbacks, or did you started to compose new stuff immediately?

Yes, the album has just come out but the break has yet to come because there is a promotion and new shows awaiting us! Our new videoclip has just come out, which is going very well, more than 30,000 views in  few weeks from it’s release! We are receiving excellent results from our first full album and this leads us to always prepare something new for both live and for a second album.

What are your main musical influences? How huge is their influence in your sound?

Among the bands that have influenced us musically there are definitely Motley Crue, Poison, Ratt, Europe and Aerosmith even if each of us comes from musically different situations that have contributed to make Even Priest Knows, our album, more personal and traceable to our figures. In our album the conductive line is the glam but are touched different genres such as blues, pop and metal just to make our album a complete tribute to the 80s.

Is there some well-known musician in particular that you would like to use in one of your upcoming albums?

We have never discussed this subject among us in the group. Certainly being able to host a great musician in one of our records would be a factor of pride for all of us.

What is your personal strategy for making your music heard by a larger audience?

Make concerts and let our music know the whole world! The glam rock is not dead and relives on our cd – Even Priest Knows -. Follow us and support our music!

Do you have any other hobby beside music?

Are girls to be considered hobbies? Hahaha. Well each of us has different passions: Matty has a passion for the cinema as a director and an actor in addition to the passion of engines, Ste loves playing sports and  trekking in the mountains, Matthew has a passion for design and art in general in all his forms and Luke likes to party and drink beer … A hobby shared by the whole band anyway …

Are you all supported by your relatives towards your devotion to music?

Fortunately our families support us and share with us the joys and difficulties of being a musician. They are people who are always on our side and to whom we can only say thank you from the heart

How’s the metal scene in your part of Italy right now? Is it easy to play gigs, to buy records etc there these days?

In Italy there are many good metal realities of the highest order since the eighties. The main problem is that metal and rock in general are still considered niche genres in our country and therefore making concerts and events with bands with their own songs is very difficult. Fortunately, however, there are still some club and sacred shops that maintain their musical line and do not let themselves be duped by the easy commercial music that is now fashionable.

Thank you for answering my questions, see ya on the road!
