You know, my least favorite part of pecking this blog out is trying to think of some witty birdshit to say here in the beginning… so, like, I’m going to review some stuff for you… cool?
Immortal ousted frontman/guitar player Abbath some time ago and Northern Chaos Gods will mark the first album without him. This will be difficult as I haven’t heard the whole record, but I will basically go off of the first track released. The track “Northern Chaos Gods” is blisteringly fast, and when I say fast, I mean fast. There are hooks and riffs in here ,and if this track is any indication of what’s to come on the full length, this is dope. The production is a little slick, but that’s more like modern black metal and having this come off as “kvlt” would be a huge mistake. The vocals here are nasty as peck and it’s just unrelenting. I’m pecking digging it…
8 Fucking Pecks
I don’t really like talking about reissues, but the almighty Abscess is rereleasing Horrorhammer on Horror Pain Gore Death… This is a classic underrated release. Abscess is awesome and basically Autopsy for those of you not in the know. This is awesome, and since it’s been unavailable for awhile, this is a cool rerelease.
9 Fucking Pecks
How could I NOT review a band called Bookakee? I really think they should write it as “Boo-Kakee,” but hey, that’s me. Ignominies is coming out on Transcending and I gotta be honest, I don’t get this at all. There’s clearly an element of tongue-in-cheek here. I mean, look at their name and see how they’re dressed. So this is, I dunno… there are pig growls and squeals, guttural vocals, nu-metal-ish tight breakdown riffs, some “rat trap” type techy parts with melodic leads. Uhhh… I know right, this just sounds like they took everything they’ve ever heard, tossed it in a blender and this came out. If this sounds scattered to you, that’s exactly how it is. There are parts here and there that show some promise, but overall it’s just not cohesive. Maybe that’s what they are going for. One Youtuber commented that this is the sound of “The musical equivalent of a schizophrenic with diarrhea” and I gotta say, they pretty much nailed it.
2 Fucking Pecks.
Until next time…
