Interview with KHASM

Hi! Give a brief history of KHASM, music style, and the members.

Philippe (Guitars): Hi! Khasm was founded early 2016 and put out an EP (“FENRIS”) quickly after (end of April 2016). After a few concerts in our area in France (we opened for Exodus, Krisiun and Dark Funeral for example), our bassist left us in end 2016.
After we began the writing process of our first LP and in June 2017, our drummer has left the “ship”.
However, that has not put me down and I decided to continue anyway with Christophe (Vocals).
For our new album, our lineup is composed of myself at the guitars, Christophe at the vocals, Vincent (a good friend) at the bass and the famous Kevin Talley at the drums.
Our style is a real mixture of many influences: thrash, death and hardcore. I think it is a good combination of all that but with our own!

Give in more detail, some information about “Trinity” and how well it sells?

“Trinity” contains 9 tracks for a duration of approx. 35 minutes. It’s pure energy and darkness! You can find very heavy mid-tempo songs as well as very fast thrashing songs.
Because we were without drummer, I have contacted Kevin Talley through a common friend (Ola Englund of the band Feared and The Haunted) and he really surprised me when he responded me!! He was very enthusiast after hearing the first demos and so the magic begun.
Besides, I wanted again to have a special guest on this record. On our EP, it was Per Nilsson of Scar Symetry who did a guitar solo. However, this time, “je suis allé au culot” and I send a mail to Jeff Waters of the Canadian band Annihilator. He replied the same day!!! Only that was awesome, but he said the track I’ve send him was really great for him playing a solo on it! And so, the things have been going!! I’m still not realizing that such awesome musicians accepted to work with us!!
It is only out for 3 weeks now and a bit early to have clearly selling numbers yet, but we have very good feedback on social media.

KHASM has signed with Sliptrick records, tell more about that? Are you getting everything you could wish from the label’s work?

This time, I really wanted to find a label for doing the best promotion possible. I knew our record had very good songs and it was hard for me thinking put it out by myself. That is not my job.
By now, we are very happy with their work and I do not know why it would going not well in the next future!

What is the difference between your latest and the very first records?

The new album is the normal continuity of our previous EP. I mean, the basis are the same, I just wanted to push the speed, the aggressivity and the “dark side” of our music a lot further.

What inspires KHASM music and lyric writing? What does KHASM lyrics talk about?

For me, when I write riffs, the result is just the consequence of the mood I am at that moment. I never think before I jam with my guitar, if the riffs must be heavy, fast, slow, etc… It comes out naturally and give a spontaneous felling on the songs. I let Christophe explain you about the lyrics! It’s on you bro’!

Do you play live often? Do you like abroad gigs?

Sadly, with our lineup difficulties we didn’t had the chance to play as often as we wanted. And through the whole process of the making of the album, I’ve preferred to focus my attention on that.
Now, first, we must find a drummer, and I hope we can go on stage again by end of this year.
We didn’t had the chance to play abroad but that’s another thing we’ll try fulfill!

How often does the band practice and work on new material?

We practice in my home-studio 2 or 3 times a month. We practice with the backing tracks of the Kevin Talley’s drums parts. So simple as that!
About new material, we don’t have a plan! I write new riffs almost every week, so when I think I can put some of them together for making a song, I do it!
Since the release of the album May 15th, I already have two tracks ready to go!

How did the band come up with the name KHASM and tell what does it means for you?

Christophe (Vocals): Actually there is a lot of band with complicated names like black dahlia murder, as i lay dying etc… we wanted something short, something easy to remember! I came up with KHASM, with a K, and everyones in the band loved it!

What does the band plan on doing in near time?

Philippe (Guitars): Find a real good drummer, then we have planned making an official video clip and then going on stage, of course, to kick some ass!!!

Any message to Sick and Destroy readers?
