Full Album Stream: Barren Altar – “Entrenched in the Faults of the Earth”

An album title like Entrenched in the Faults of the Earth calls to mind larger-than-life images, thus it’s fitting that blackened funeral doom collective Barren Altar have aimed high for their debut, Entrenched in the Faults of the Earth. Smoothly bridging crushing funeral doom and mournful black metal, Barren Altar flip between the two styles throughout Entrenched.

Songs like opener “Nexus of Grief” play more to the band’s black metal sensibilities, whereas tracks like “Call to the Waves” and the album’s longest song, “The Great Awakening of Death,” showcase their ability to create dissonant, dark funeral doom. The album was recorded by Greg Wilkinson (Graves At Sea, Necrot, Vastum) and sounds dark and full across both the black metal and funeral doom segments.

Barren Altar will release Entrenched in the Faults of the Earth tomorrow, but you can stream it in full below, as well as purchase digital and physical editions via Bandcamp.
