Oakland, California’s Abstracter paint a bleak picture on their third album, Cinerus Incarnate. Painting the picture of a “wretched world cursed to eternal twilight, where reality is torn to pieces and existence is reduced to the final stages of survival,” the blackened doomsayers conjure ugly, desolate hellscapes that really do feel like they could serve as a soundtrack to the apocalypse. Alternating between ripping black metal and extremely-blackened doom, the consistent throughout Cinerus Incarnate is the hopeless, consuming sense of darkness.
New song “Wings of Annihilation” is exemplary of what Abstracter unleash throughout the album. Lengthy, noisy, raw and just devoid of positivity, it highlights all of their strengths over nearly eleven minutes.
The band had this to say about the track: “‘Wings of Annihilation’ is another chapter to this story being told on our album where the world has ended, consumed by ravaging nuclear winds, and all that’s left of existence is a blood-soaked sunless twilight drowned in torment… And someone, somehow, is still alive to see and live this new reality.”
Pretty miserable, right? Stream “Wings of Annihilation” below and find out for yourself.
