- Hi! Give a brief history of Overhung, music style, and the members.
Howard: Overhung is a hard rock band that started off quite accidentally. We met to jam once for a recording and ended up creating our own music in that one jam. The band took off from there and after one of our first few performances we were already dubbed as the ‘Sex Rock’ band to watch. The band members all come from similar backgrounds although their personal styles are evident in the music the band makes. Overhung is all about fun, sex and rock n roll, with a healthy dose of RUM all over everything.
- Give in more detail, some information about “Moving Ahead” and how well it sells?
Moving Ahead was the culmination of a sea of changes that the band went through which included lead vocalist Sujit Kumar first moving from Bombay to Delhi and then to a permanent shift in Alexandria Virgina. The album was called Moving Ahead because the band decided to battle and not give up when things were toughest. The album has something for everyone from the punk inspired ‘You Think You’re So Cool‘ to the Glam rocker ‘Sex Machine’.
- Overhung has signed with Test Your Metal Records, tell more about that?
Signing with TYMR has been a boon for the band. Relegated to pushing our music in India, the band didn’t see much interest in their music abroad until Sujit moved to the US and then eventually after TYMR signed us up. Now we have people all over the Americas and Europe writing into us to tell us they love our old school sound. We love it!
- What is the difference between your latest and the very first records?
The amount of money we spent on them. Honestly, also Crosby our current bass player was added to the line up after the EP released, which was our first record. The next record will feature more of the same but louder and heavier!
- What inspires Overhung music and lyric writing? What does Overhung lyrics talk about?
SEX, SEX, SEX more SEX. That’s a tag line but a lot if the album is about sex and love. We also have songs that talk about depression, insanity and our favorite song ‘Waste’ talks about female infanticide, education and war.
- Do you play live often? Do you like abroad gigs?
We have yet to play as a band abroad but we are looking forward to touring CANADA in the summer if everything goes according to plan. Otherwise with Sujit in the US and the rest of us back in India, we plan a annual tour of India and gig for about a month and a half before Sujit heads back.
- How often does the band practice and work on new material?
Thanks to the internet, song writing and idea sharing is a constant. We practice once a year as a band when Sujit comes to town and so far that’s been the ideal way for us to work.
- How did the band come up with the name Overhung and tell what does it means for you?
Before we were a band, Sujit calls me up and says he has got a gig at HRC Bombay but needed a band and asked if I was free. I was nursing a hangover so I told him to call me back later because I was terribly Hung over. The next thing I knew was that I was in a band called Overhung and the rest as they say is history.
- What does the band plan on doing in near time?
In the near future the band is launching our first single with TYMR called ‘King if Dreams’. After which we hope to tour the Canada and America in the near future.
- Any message to Sick and Destroy readers?
Rock n Roll will never die. Use a condom. Where is the rum, there must be rum, where is the rum there must be rum, where is the rum there must be rum, RUM n ROCK n ROLL! (Sung to the tune of here we go round the mulberry bush)
