Interview Royal Guard

Hail, welcome to Sick And Destroy. Before we start the interview, I would like you to introduce yourself to our readers. To begin with where are you from and a brief history about your band?

Hi everybody, we are Royal Guard and we play Hard Rock! We’re Davide (Lead Voice), Mattia D. (Lead Guitar), Enrico (Rhythm Guitar), Mattia M. (Bass Guitar), Simone (Drums). We’re from Ravenna, in Italy. We started playing together in 2013 and during the first three years we focused on the live experience. Then we thought that we were ready for the recording of our songs, so in the summer of 2016 we entered the studio and recorded our first album, “Lights and Dreams”.

How would you describe your music? And what bands have influenced you the most?

About our music.. well.. We do our best to create powerful and pure Hard Rock, trying to give to our listeners the same feelings that we feel playing our songs.
The band that surely most influenced our music production is Guns ‘n Roses!
But influences came also from Metallica, Judas Priest, Hardcore Superstar and many other..

How many and which albums/demos has ROYAL GUARD released so far?

So far “Lights and Dreams” is our first album ever! In 2013 we recorded an E.P. that included previous versions of “The Cage” and “Live Forever”.

Which ones happens to be your favourite songs? of ROYAL GUARD and personal.

You know, we are very proud of our album and it’s hard for us to say which one of our songs we like the most.. but if I have to choose one, then it’s Change Direction.. I wrote the lyrics of that song in a particular moment of my life and I love the way it sounds!
Even talking about the world of the great musicians, it’s hard to say which one is our favourite song.. My favourite one is surely Deep Purple’s “Child In Time”, Mattia M. loves Rocket Queen from Guns ‘n Roses.. we all love a different song, but we all love Rock ‘n Roll!

Do you feel that ROYAL GUARD’s music has changed over the years and how?

I think that so far, our music hasn’t changed too much.. of course it changed because in these years we passed through 2 lead guitar changes and because we matured as musicians.. but we are still trying to reach the same kind of music and emotions that we were looking for at the beginning of this experience.

How much time does it take for ROYAL GUARD to record an album?

It took us about three weeks to record “Lights And Dreams”.

Tell us something more about the latest album ‘LIGHTS & DREAMS’.

The lyrics in “Lights And Dreams” are quite personal.. I put in our songs my thoughts about different topics such as political scandals, media events, revolutions, religion and many other things that I’ve seen happening around the world on the media.. I also talk about personal experiences that happened in my life and gave me strong emotions..
About the music, we must say that we worked together a lot to reach the final version of each track and to make sound the way we wanted to, in pure Rock ‘n Roll style.
We are very proud of the work we’ve done and off course we hope our readers and listeners like it too!!

Whats next? Working on any new album? If so, some details please.

Yes, right now we’re  working on new songs! We have a lot of new riffs to work on!

Any tours, gigs for promotion of latest album? Any future plans for playing in Europe or USA?

We still haven’t planned a tour in Europe or USA, but we’re looking for it! maybe this year!

Has ROYAL GUARD done any opening acts for other major heavy weight bands? If yes, then when and where?

Yes, we had the luck to play as opening act for some great artists:
Thomas Silver (ex HCSS) in Padova and Bologna in 2015;
Tigertailz in Ravenna in 2016
Reckless Love in Bologna in 2017
VCPS in Padova and Vercelli in 2017

What do you feel about the Metal Scene there in your country?

Well, maybe Italy lacks of that Rock and Metal culture that’s normal in other countries.. Anyway, our passion and love for music keep us playing together and creating new songs!

Any messages for the readers?

Thank you all for giving us a little of your precious time. We really hope that you listen to our album and enjoy  our music! We’ll keep on working to give you good music! Rock ‘n Roll!!
