Ex-QUEENSRŸCHE Singer GEOFF TATE Is 'Really Looking Forward' To Performing Entire 'Operation: Mindcrime' Album Again

Former QUEENSRŸCHE and current OPERATION: MINDCRIME vocalist Geoff Tate was recently interviewed by Metal Wani. You can listen to the full chat below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET):

On “A New Reality”, the new trilogy-completing album by OPERATION: MINDCRIME:

Geoff: “I really had a great time finishing up this record, and I was really looking forward to hearing all the music at once, listening all the way though, which I really enjoyed. I’m very pleased with the whole thing. It was really in my lifetime one of the more monumental projects I’ve done, where it was just very all-encompassing, and I worked with so many different people in a collaborative sense on it, and it was just one of those projects that you live it, breathe it for so long. When I finally turned the last record in, I said to my wife, ‘I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself now.’ I’ve just been so engulfed with this series of albums for so long. She said, ‘Why don’t you take a breather for a while?’ That’s kind of what I’ve been doing.”

On his upcoming tour commemorating the 30th anniversary QUEENSRŸCHE‘s “Operation: Mindcrime”:

Geoff: “We’re going to perform the ‘Mindcrime’ album in its entirety, and the last part of the show will be a journey into the newer material from the trilogy and some of the fan favorites from past albums as well. I’m actually really looking forward to playing the ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ album in its entirety again. I love playing that thing, and it’s actually quite enjoyable to present, although it’s a really violent record. It’s going to be kind of a challenge for me to put myself in that head space for that length of time and then snap out of it.”

On his future musical plans:

Geoff: “You know, I don’t know. I’m kind of in what I would call the sponge mode with my life, where I’m kind of in between musical projects, and sort of keeping my eyes open, my ears open to what comes next. It’s an interesting place to be, because it’s interesting times we live in right now — just unprecedented times. There’s a lot of things to write about — there’s something to say, and I think it’s important to be part of the discussion where we’re going as far as American society. I’m glad to be alive right now. We’re going through a metamorphosis — kind of a time where we maybe can finally set sort of an American identity, who we are, what our belief system is, because the rules have changed. The lines are being redrawn. I just don’t have a plan as to right now what I’m going to do next musically, but I’ll let you know. [Laughs]”

On the long-rumored THREE TREMORS project with Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford:

Geoff: “The whole project wasn’t really a project. It was just sort of dinner conversation that got kind of taken out of context, really. People still ask me about that, and I guess they ask Bruce and Rob the same question now. We never planned anything — we talked about it at dinner one night, and somebody overheard us and started talking about it in the press. The next thing we knew, people were asking, ‘Hey, when is the album coming out?'”

“A New Reality” was released on December 1 via Frontiers Music Srl.

Tate recently recorded a brand new song in support of charity. All proceeds from the track, which will be released later this month, will benefit MercyWatch, a nonprofit focused on outreach to the homeless community in Snohomish County, located in the U.S. state of Washington, where Tate lives with his family.
