HALESTORM Cancels Rochester Concert After LZZY HALE Falls Ill

HALESTORM was forced to cancel its concert in Rochester, New York Friday night (October 6).

The band’s performance at the Main Street Armory was called off shortly before doors opened for the event.

In a message on her Facebook page, HALESTORM frontwoman Lzzy Hale apologized “so deeply” for having to scrap last night’s show, explaining that she came down with an “upper respiratory infection” after HALESTORM‘s concert in Akron, Ohio three days earlier. Even though she felt like she was “constantly swallowing razor blades,” she played the October 4 concert with HALESTORM in South Bend, Indiana and “made it through.” But on Friday, she “came down with a high fever.” She explained: “I still wanted to see if I could pull it off so I didn’t make a decision until I test-drove my voice. So, my awesome crew set everything up and we did our soundcheck, but, unfortunately, for the sake of my health and future voice, I had to choose rest [on Friday].”

Lzzy went on to say that HALESTORM fans know how much she hates canceling shows and that she would rather “muscle through and risk hurting” herself than disappoint the people that come out to see the concert. “But that isn’t smart. And, unfortunately, these smart, hard decisions fall on me,” she wrote.

Hale added that if HALESTORM “were the type of band that relied on tracks and trickery to play shows, I could’ve mimed my way through and pretended to sing. But we promised a long time ago that we’d never half-ass or fake a show, ’cause that isn’t rock ‘n’ roll,” she wrote, “and you guys deserve the real deal. Anyone who has seen our live knows that I actually sing! What you hear is always authentic, and firing on all cylinders. That also means I’m human, and getting sick and having to miss a show are the prices I pay for being real.

“Thank you for all of the love, Rochester, and I promise I will make this up to you when I’m at my best again!” Lzzy continued.

“I’m resting up and taking care of myself. I do not take this shit lightly.

I’m willing this fever to break and my throat to reduce its swelling so that I can get on stage in Philly [Saturday] and make a loud noise!”

Openers GRETA VON FLEET and NEWS YEAR DAY went ahead with their performances in Rochester on Friday.

HALESTORM is scheduled to play today at the Rock Allegiance festival at BB&T Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey.
