Interview Goatblood

Good day Goatblood! How are you guys doing these days?

Hey man, thanks for the interview and the support! We’re doing fine.

First of all, please introduce your band and band members to our readers.

Satanic Death Vulva (SDV) and Reverend Slayer (RS) have founded the GOATBLOOD cult in the end of 2011. We call our style “Ritual Occult Goat Metal” and like to add a lot of fuck you attitude to it.

I’d like to know about the formation of the band. How did you guys meet and all. Also, is there any special story behind the band title?

SDV and I have been knowing each other since our teenager days. Someday we just bought some instruments and started rehearsing. This must have been in the mid-90s. Back in those days most of us was just listening to Norwegian Black Metal.
SDV used to play in many different bands, handling guitars and vocals. I was active in a band called MORANNON as a guitarist and vocalist myself. The bands disbanded over time, but both of us wanted to stay active, so one day when we were drinking and listening to BEHERIT in SDVs living room we thought about possible ways of creating music. We didn’t have a drummer, but I was kinda tired of the old buzzsaw, so SDV came up with the idea of creating a Death/Black Metal band, with me handling the drums. A suggestion for a name also popped up: a song title by SADOMATOR went on to be the new moniker, GOATBLOOD. A short while later I actually had bought a drum kit and we had found a rehearsal room, so we started off in March 2012.

I expect a long reply for this one. Can you please tell us about the concept and lyrical themes of all your previous releases?

Oh well, there’s not as much to say as you might expect. As rapidly as SDV can come up with new riffs I create new song titles. They just come to me, you know, like, everywhere. Even while taking a dump! Ha, I wrote the song “Satan Fucks the Universe” while shitting. Sometimes I still have to do a riff again.
Back to the lyrics: Most important to us is that they fit the song and we like the title. First, we write the song, and after that the lyrics are added. They always should be short and fit, filthy and ugly. Sometimes there’s a little irony involved, but not too often. On the first demos we wrote mostly about the middle ages, church, inquisition, torture and stuff like that, but nowadays we tend to be a little more differentiated. We even tend to be a little political here and there. There’s so much fucked up stuff going on on this planet, it can’t go without noticing.

Is there any special reason for choosing your music conception?

Well, not really. As already started, both of us have been playing in Death/Black or Thrash Metal bands for years. Because of the fact that RS went on to play a new instrument, we needed some fresh ideas to cut with the past and start all over again.

How do you guys manage to create music at all? What challenges do you face while writing and recording an album?

Like I said, SDV has a great talent of producing new riffs. Because we know each other so well, we matched up pretty quickly concerning writing; every time SDV comes up with an idea, I get the hang of it pretty quickly and am able to match up a beat and stuff. We don’t have anything you can call a ‘special atmosphere’, we rehearse during weekdays evening and are sober most of the time. It might be a surprise to some, but the noise we create actually is kinda structured. Haha!

Your latest album Veneration of Armageddon was released on December 24th. How was the experience working on the studio? Any funny or even sad happenings during the studio work?

It isn’t so much of what you’d call a ‘real’ studio. The recordings were done in a hobby room over at the place of a buddy of ours in our little town. This guy did a great job and we’re absolutely satisfied with the outcome. Aside from the fact of a notebook dying on us on the first day of the recordings nothing special happened.
Well, there might be one interesting story to tell: That buddy of ours is in his early 20s and still living with his parents, who are Bible-believing Christians. For real, haha! Against all odds we were allowed to come in and I remember when, while taking a break from recording, we sat in the backyard of the house with the parents, next to a big pond with koi carps, where we were having coffee and biscuits while chatting. On the outside wall of the house they had a big crucifix, and we sat there in our patch-loaded vests…strange, but fun!

You guys are still underground/underrated, although your music has been appreciated by the critics worldwide. What, according to you, is the reason behind it?

You don’t become a star overnight, you know, but this also really isn’t our aim. We’re happy with our current position in the underground. If this lasted for a while, it would be great. I don’t exactly know the reason, see, there’s many bands playing ‘Goat Metal’, and this style might not be the most suited for mainstream fans, which is a good thing.

Can you throw some light on your past as musicians?

SDV has been playing guitars and doing vocals in several bands such as ELOHIM, GENOCIDE, DECIBEL REBELS and NACHT, mostly using the moniker “Chaos”. Reverend Slayer used to handle guitars, bass and vocals for the Black Metal-duo MORANNON as “Black Fog”. In 15 years of existence only three demos were recorded. Here and there RS helped out SDV playing the bass guitar in some of the projects, i.e. ELOHIM.

Tell us about your favorite bands, from whom you gain inspiration. Are you having any favorite artist/band that has emerged from metal/rock soil?

It`s impossible to name just one band, because there’s so much good stuff out there – even more in the different genres, Death, Black or classical Heavy Metal. There are good bands and artists in every style. Concerning GOATBLOOD some grave influences are bands such as BEHERIT, SADOMATOR, BLASPHERIAN, KILL, but also BLOOD or RIDE FOR REVENGE.

How is the metal scene going in Germany?

We not going to answer this today.

Tell us, if you have played abroad.

Yes, we’ve played in Poznan, Poland once. It was a great experience, we are always willing to do again.

Are you working on any music videos, might it be videoclip or lyric video?

I cannot imagine this at the moment. I think it’d be a little ridiculous, wouldn’t it?

I do not think so. Well, rapid fire section. Just for fun. So just chill, and just type the first thought that comes to your mind when you hear:

* Religion – The reason for the world’s downfall!
* Death – The only certain thing! Good to know, everyone’s bound to it.
* Metal – The music we grew up with, the music we still adore, play and listen to!
* Ritual – We have our own: Ritual Occult Goat Metal!

Thanks a lot for your time! It’s really nice to know more about you. Would you like to say anything to your fans and our readers?

The Vinyl version of the album “Veneration of Armageddon” is now available. Then there will be fitting T-shirts as well. Furthermore we entered the studio to record two new songs for a split-EP with the Portuguese of “Satanize”. And sometime in the summer of 2017, another demo tape, called “Gas mask devastation terror” will be follow. See, there is always a lot to do. Thanks again and support the underground!!!
