Interview Venefixion

Hi, Venefixion. Your Armorican Deathrites MPL released on December 9th. You must be excited?

Hi, cheers for letting us talk on behalf of VENEFIXION. Yes, it got released last December and of course we got excited. We are glad about the response it got and the feedbacks we received. Looks like it sells pretty ok also, this is all I can tell you about it at the moment.

First of all, we would like to know about the formation of the band. When and how was it formed? Do you think the band name ‘Venefixion’ perfectly decribes your music and philosophy?

I started this band back in 2012 or something like that with K. Desecrator who writes all the music and me the lyrics plus giving the artistic directions/ thematics. We both got stuck in Australia and Germany, and we were missing something. We were both missing bands like Excoriate and Repugnant (not only but that discussion came on the table at that time). We were like, come on, we need to do something as we both were isolated in two different countries with people around us already busy with their own bands…

Yes it does. Venefixion is a bastard mix of both Venefice and Defixion (Defixio). First word is the fact of poisoning someone by using witchcraft and the second one is a Roman word that is an ancestor for Voodoo, cursing somebody by taking a belonging from that very same person and performing some kind of a rite in order to cause pain or only taking revenge.

Within the band, we talk about curses, voodoo, rites from around the globe, etc. so I guess it describes quite well our music. It is important to us keep sticking to this, never forgetting why we started the band. As said, it is a bastard mix up between two words, I think it translates also our music, some bastard stuff between Death Metal, Black Metal and maybe Thrash Metal we wish to call Death Metal, no more no less.

Okay now tell us something about Armorican Deathrites, and the lyrical themes behind each track. What are the ideas you wanted to put across?

Well, Armorican Deathrites is some kind of a concept even if I hate that word. We never wanted to make a concept, but after the demo, where we have been talking about different areas across the planet, it was like a natural feeling to concentrate on the area we both moved back and talking about the sinister and mysterious aspect of our homeland. An Ankou, that is the first track of the MLP is a track about the Breton grim reaper, its scythe is turned upside down, he wears a typical hat from Bretagne (where we live) and gets a chariot to cary on the cadavers he takes the souls from… This legend is really a strong and respected legend over here. Second track is called Armorican Deathrites, it only relates a burial the way our ancestors could live them, sad, cold and lugubre as shit (it also reflects the oddest part of the area we can still witness today). Last song is called Naia, it deals about a witch that actually lived in Morbihan (not directly where we are located) but that belongs to Brittany, this witch was very smart and scary at the same time, she could tear the shit out of you or spend hours teaching you all about life and Death. We take Armorican Deathrites as a tribute to our land and all the legends, rites and darkest aspects of it.

Where and when did you record Armorican Deathrites? Are you satisfied with it?

We used to record it on different times. First K. Desecrator recorded the drums, then bass. Came the guitarists, W. Cadavre and J. Obscene and finally me recording vocals. All got recorded on different times but in only one place, I call it the unholy tavern!

We of course are satisfied with it. We like the production and all. Everyone within the band got really involved and P. Engel was the perfect man to handle the mastering phase. We are fully satisfied about the job he did and when people do not get it or like it, it is totally equal to us.

Are you gonna to release some official band merch?

Our label IRON BONEHEAD PRODUCTIONS just released a zipper and a shirt (both limited to 50) from our latest release «Armorican Deathrites». We have some exclusive shirts as well designed by KARMAZID we used to print during our last mini Tour (can be purchased on our bandcamp page). This is it for the moment. Later will come a few more stuff I guess but nothing is yet set in stone.

What are Venefixion’s musical and non-musical influences?

Musically, I will give you a list, non exhaustive and in no particular order, so that maybe your readers get a better idea: Repulsion, Dismember, Massacre, Grotesque, Excoriate, Death, Repugnant, Morbid Angel, Autopsy…

Beside the music, we are inspired by Death, Voodoo, curses, funerary rites around the world. We only try to deal about objective and palpable subjects, just like people can come across to it everywhere, every time…

Could you please express your personal views on religion and god?

Man, we reject all religions and Gods (from monotheistic religions) to be honest. All has been created by Man to take benefit from the feeble minded people. We are against it. Actually, in VENEFIXION, we do not really talk about religion and even less about God or the Devil, it is a misconception that VENEFIXION can be linked to anything « Occult » or to Mysticism actually. I personally am a follower of the Great order of Death, I do worship and adore Death because it is something that literally surrounds us and that we will know in a way or another, sooner or later. Death is unequal and unpredictable. It is something bigger and stronger than anything else that ever appeared or will ever appear on this planet. Death is way superior to religions and or God(s). We piss on them both.

Shall we expect some gigs across USA or Europe near time?

We have some more shows planned or in the works atm. We have a gig in Paris at the end of March, and then, we are going to play at Metal Magic in Denmark. The rest is only some hypothesis, but we have some serious shit in the talks as well, time will tell if it is gonna occur or not. regarding US or out of Europe shows, nothing yet is planned. did not get any requests to be honest. And for the US, there are some different reasons and administrative crap that may lead us to not play there at all.

When shall fans to expect something new from you? Videoclip, single, documentary etc?

Our next release is going to be a a split with a band we can not yet give the name of. I can only tell the  band is prior to VENEFIXION and they are friends of ours. The rest will be revealed in prompt time. It is going to be a split 12 inches including an exclusive track for each bands and a cover each as well and will be released still via IBP exclusively.

Thanks a lot for the interview. Speak out to your fans, supporters, critics and our readers before we wrap up!

We only wan tot tell your readers to go listen to our songs and if they like our music, to support our label by purchasing our merch, the rest is a waste of time. Thanks for the interview.
