Interview GUTTED

Hi! Give a brief history of GUTTED, music style, and the members.

Hello to all readers of Sick and Destroy Magazine! Gutted was founded in 1996 as Genocide. We changed our name into Gutted two years later. We play fast and tech death metal in the veins of Origin, Cryptopsy, Nile. Our current line-up is the following:
Tamás Sándor – drums, Gábor Drótos – guitar, András Horváth – guitar, Péter Lipák – bass, Sándor Hajnali – vocals

Give in more detail, some information about your album “Martyr Creation” and how well it sells?

Martyr Creation is our 4th full album released by Xtreem Music last December. It is available in digital stores all around the world and you can listen to it on YouTube in its entirety. I don’t know anything about how the physical CD’s sell at our label’s side. I sold almost zero since I have them from our label.

GUTTED has signed with Xtreem Music, tell more about that?

We sent them demo songs and they really liked them. I have always wanted to work with Xtreem Music because I think they are very professional and they are addicted to this kind of music! Lots of great releases, also some favorites of mine were released by them. We are really honored working with them. They do a great promotion for the album the reactions are fantastic so far.

What is the difference between your latest and the very first records?

We wanted to be the most brutal band at the beginning of our career and we recorded some very sick, chaotic and fast music to manage it. Our old materials are way too chaotic. No real song structures only fast music without real goal. On the new album we tried to write real songs with real harmonies and vocal patterns. We tried to create fast songs which still catchy in the same time.

What inspires GUTTED music and lyric writing? What does GUTTED lyrics talk about?

Life itself inspires us mostly. Our lyrics about the dark side of the human mind, isolation, how fast human life passes

Do you play live often? Do you like abroad gigs?

We don’t do many gigs because we all have a normal life beside the band and it is hard to organize gigs. We love to play abroad and played in many countries in Europe through the years. This year we will be playing in Las Vegas on Las Vegas Death Fest 9. It will be our 1st US appearance! Can’t wait that show. It will be a lifetime experience for sure!

How often does the band practice and work on new material?

Unfortunately we don’t practice enough because of our normal life schedule. Once a month or twice a month. New material is always written by our guitarist Gábor. He writes our songs. When he has a full new song totally written, he shows it to us and we decided how to continue or finish that song. But almost every song has its complete shape in his hands and no changes are made by the rest of the band.

How did the band come up with the name GUTTED and tell what does it means for you?

We picked up this name from one of the Cannibal Corpse songs. This song is the second one on the Butchered At Birth record. Amazing song and totally represents what kind of music we play. You can easily recognize our style at the first sight when you take a look at this name.

What does the band plan on doing in near time?

We try to promote our new album this year. We have some confirmed gigs and some are being organized. Not many but we will do some festival shows and club gigs this year. Maybe we will write some new tunes, who knows, we will see.
