Interview Afterlife Symphony

Hi! Tell me about Afterlife Symphony. Why did you decide to name the band with such title? What kind of ideas do you explore?

Initially our name was simply “Afterlife,” our songs deal with very often (if not always) dreamlike, transcendental issues… the idea of the after life reflects very much the atmosphere of our pieces!

Now our name is “Afterlife Symphony” and it arrived for several reasons, primarily for homonyms bands. It must be said that our name reflects us at 100%. It’s nice to think that our songs are symphonies of a life beyond the earthly existence.

“Moment Between Lives” album was released on September 9th via Revalve records. How does that make you feel? Do you feel you have put album into masses without any wishes to change something now?

“Moment Between Lives” was an album very “suffered,” and we make no secret that it was too complicated. We lived, as a group, contrasting moments in the making of this album and for this reason, we love it! Will surely be a cornerstone of our route. So I would say no, don’t we would change anything about the job done.

Tell me more about “Moment Between Lives”? Album ideas etc…

Ideas for “Moment” Between Lives “were born from a common image: the idea and the search for true love, and the consequent search for themselves. The whole concept is the path of a soul, the birth, growth, death. Each track reflects the various fragments of a lifetime! Broken Breath, for example, is closely linked to a “hiccup” experienced by the band …

In every song you can fell the undertone of these special moments.

There are 3 years break between “Symphony of Silence” and “Moment Between Lives”, do you think there are too big difference between these albums? All in all – 3 more years of practice is a good sign.

Definitely are two different products. Starting from subjects, up to the aging of each of us and its instrument. We believe it is a more technical and professional than the first! 3 years serve to perfect itself:)

Both your albums were released by Revalve records. That’s pretty obvious that both you and the label are satisfied with the cooperation?

Yes, we are very satisfied with the cooperation with Revalve Records, we have always been very appreciated and encouraged by the label to give the best of ourselves. You always need someone to hold you up! Especially when it is in its beginning.

Where do you take all inspiration from?

Hard to say, we each lead very different lives, with interests and ideas which often don’t intertwine. Maybe that’s the key point, we draw, every one of us, inspired by our personal experiences, by our life paths and the moods which we pass through during this. The inspiration comes from everything around and within us!

In your opinion, what is the best way to define Afterlife Symphony’s sound?

Deep and magical? I think they’re the two most suitable terms to describe our music, we always hope that whoever listens to feel involved in our stories!

So, are you on hiatus now, just relaxed and looking for album feedbacks, or did you started to compose new stuff immediately?

There is no time to rest! We already have a lot of ideas for future work, this is also thanks to the feedback received… so stay tuned!

What are your main musical influences? How huge is their influence in your sound?

Our biggest influences derive from such bands of this genre, as Nightwish, Epic, Within Temptation, but there are influences by bands of completely different genre like Opeth, Dimmu Borgir, Gojira. We also listen to many soundtracks, mostly written by Hans Zimmer! And in all that we do not miss the classics! (Hahaha)

Is there some well-known musician in particular that you would like to use in one of your upcoming albums?

We can dream big?  Ahahah. Each of us has his own “favourite musician”, and who knows, maybe in the future we will begin a collaboration with. some of these!

We haven’t thought about featuring music as for the next creations, but I don’t think we’ll have to go very far to find good musicians to work with. In Italy there are so many that we admire!

What is your personal strategy for making your music heard by a larger audience?

Initially we played for fun, then it is thought to make people fall in love with you. We have never used any strategies, if not the stay true to what we play. First of all we compose what we like and exalt us and then we always hope that there are other people out there like us who can appreciate our stuff.

Do you have any other hobby beside music?

Yes of course, everyone loves to do something outside of music!

There are those among us loves crafts, writing, video games, who paints, who love fishing… we always keep on our hobby!

Are you all supported by your relatives towards your devotion to music?

Yes, if it weren’t for their support, many times we would leave a little break down. The people who love you and support you are the key to all success!

How’s the metal scene in Italy right now? Is it easy to play gigs, to buy records etc there these days?

The metal scene in Italy is very active. As I said, there are very many artists, full of ideas and very talented! As for playing live, the situation is a bit tangled in Italy… but the music is certainly supported by the fans, buying band’s stuffs and supporting it under the stage!! \m/

Thank you for answering my questions, see ya on the road!

Thank You guys!!!
