Interview WASTAGE

If you like something powerful, related to thrash metal and some modern tunes – you must check out Slovakian monsters Wastage!

Hi! Tell me about WASTAGE. Why did you decide to name the band with such title? What kind of ideas do you explore?

The name of our group developed from this age in which we live… if you just look around you see how people waste everything and all materials are quickly running out of, people don´t seriously deal with these problems so we want to make them aware about these issues…

“Slave To The System” album was released early this year. How does that make you feel? Do you feel you have put album into masses without any wishes to change something now?

We are satisfied with the album. The songs and lyrics are in context with the name of the album. We are satisfied with the sound too, we worked a lot on this album, finally the listeners must consider all this by themselves.

Tell me more about “Slave To The System”? Album ideas etc…

After successful release of our promo song RIGHT NOW which was selling very well during our concerts we decided to release full album. Album was named „Slave to the system“. We think that we are all, in some way, slaves of the system… of the financial groups, of the employers, money… album consists of 11 songs, included songs from our single too… but of course in new way and with new sound, the difference is clear.

Where do you take all inspiration from?

The music is made by Roman… he is crazy musician… he has many good ideas, we are all happy about this. In general, we can say that all this album is Roman thing. These days we are preparing material for new album… Bo is responsible for texts and lyrics, themes and topics are taken from real life situations from his point of view.

In your opinion, what is the best way to define WASTAGE’s sound?

The sound is modern, aggressive, the sound of guitars, bass and drums is harmonized – it was written about us in various reviews by some independent music experts. We are all satisfied with the sound too. The album was recorded in Czech republic and afterwards mixed and mastering was done in Poland.

So, are you on hiatus now, just relaxed and looking for album feedbacks, or did you started to compose new stuff immediately?

We don´t have time for relax. The band is regularly on concerts, we are presenting our album, we are doing promo to support the sale, we are trying to make the album accessible and more famous for the most people around. The album was first introduced on stage by the world-well know band DECAPITATED from Poland, we were offered to play on stage with bands like Sepultura, Jinjer, Sadist, and finally with legendary SDI, which invited us to Hungary as a support band, and for their last, farewell gig in September 2016 in Germany too.

What are your main musical influences? How huge is their influence in your sound?

We use our own ideas, in some cases we are compared to Sepultura… we like bands like Rage against the machine, Slayer, Meshuggah, Gojira… maybe there is some influence on our band from them somehow.

Is there some well-known musician in particular that you would like to use in one of your upcoming albums?

No there isn’t any… but we would like to cooperate with Tom Araya… haha (laugh)

What is your personal strategy for making your music heard by a larger audience?

Album was spread by various music portals (webzine)… and for reviews by some music magazines… besides that we play a lot… really a lot…

Do you have any other hobby beside music?

We really don´t have much free time. Bo sometimes goes for bike and Roman is crafting his own beer, which really tastes very good.

Are you all supported by your relatives towards your devotion to music?

Of course yes… without support of our families and close friends it would not be possible… we got understanding from them and they are all very tolerant and patient to us.

How’s the metal scene in Slovakia right now? Is it easy to play gigs, to buy records etc there these days?

Slovak scene is very good and strong too, here are many bands, many skilful musicians. Of course not each band has possibility to make gigs, at that point we are very lucky. We play many gigs in Collosseum, in Kosice, it is like our base and home place for making our shows. Even we organized few concerts in this place, this spot is very popular and famous for many music fans as well as musicians outside Slovakia too.

Thank you for answering my questions, see ya on the road! / Lukasz
