- Hi! Give a brief history of Sometimes We Make Music, music style, and the members.
Ivar: It began with me and Danny just playing around with music in our free time, made a few songs and made a facebook page called Sometimes We Make Music where we would share the songs from. One who took note of this was Terje, our drummer, who insisted we did something with this and shortly after, gathering the right people and we made a full band of it. My intention with this band is to play around with as many genres and styles of music and make it as diverse as possible, all while sounding distinctly like us.
- Give in more detail, some information about Trail Of The Fallen?
Trail of the Fallen got the name from the trail our songs make on the album.
The song’s we’ve made have different themes ( Famine is set around the time of the golden horde/Genghis Khan, Return/Hymn is set in the viking age, Queen Anne’s Revenge and Trail of the fallen around the era of pirates and so on). We’ve tried to tell different tales from the different eras. The people who fell in those different times, lead to a trail of fallen.
- Sometimes We Make Music has signed with no label, tell more about that?
Ivar: Haven’t gotten quite that far. Of course we would love to have a label backing us, but there are also a lot of shady deals out there so we´re very careful.
- What is the difference between your latest and the very first records?
Ivar: Experience and a budget. Our first EP was just something me and Danny played around and had fun with in between sips of alcohol, with no real intention of doing anything with it.
Now that we’ve evolved to a full group of dedicated musicians we wanted to do it right, so we put some money into the album and I think the end result speaks for itself.
- What inspires Sometimes We Make Music music and lyric writing? What does Sometimes We Make Music lyrics talk about?
Ivar: I just make music that comes naturally to me, Whenever I write a new song I tend to make something very inspired by whatever I’m listening to that week. It’s pretty much monkey see, monkey do.
Danny: Lyrics often comes from the mood the songs set when i first hear them. We’ll then discuss if there is a theme we’ll want to write about, but per usual, i’ll just start writing something terrible, and work my way from there.
Usually i try to write around a theme, but we have a lot of variety, but usually about overcoming obstacles, battles, epic shit etc.
- Do you play live often? Do you like abroad gigs?
Ivar: We love live shows and we play as often as we get too. Sadly, since everyone has day jobs and the band is still just a hobby at this point we don’t get the chance too often. We hope to start doing more live shows in 2020. We would love to do shows abroad. Feel free to book us! We do children’s parties, weddings, satanic rituals….
- How often do the band practice and work on new material?
Ivar: Since we live in two different places in the country we only meet up a few times a year to practise and go through songs, otherwise we´ll record our own bits individually and send to each other until we have a demo.
Danny: Now that we’ve recorded our album, we have all the backing tracks to practice to. For a time, we practiced after an ever so annoying cowbell, just to be sure we were in sync.
So me, Ivar and Zlatko will listen to backing tracks with drum and blast through the set, whilst Terje and Alex practice their stuff at their place.
- How did the band come up with the name Sometimes We Make Music and tell what does it means for you?
Ivar: As mentioned previously the name came from a facebook page we were using to share some songs we made to friends and family. We weren’t a band and so we didn’t want to do the typical dark metal band name, and also we were definitely drunk at that point, so the name was really just a placeholder, until it wasn´t.
Danny: Also one of the reasons we actually went for the name (whilst we were drinking a beer or two) we thought “ The possibilities are endless! If we want to brew and sell beer, well just call it “Sometimes We Brew Beer”, if we want to sell cars, well just call it “Sometimes We Deal Cars”.
Don’t drink and name guys.
- What does the band plan on doing in the near time?
Ivar: Hopefully we’ll get to do more shows and get the word out to people. We also hope to get some recording time in 2020. Not going to spoil too much but it will be a concept album involving the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
- Any message to Sick and Destroy readers?
Ivar: So grateful to anyone taking the time to check us out and please share our songs to your friends!
Danny: Also, don’t get sick, but feel free to destroy!
Okay, i’ll show myself out from this interview…
