- Hi! Give a brief history of Blackhearth, music style, and the members.
(Asier) Blackhearth is a Heavy Metal project created in Durango (Basque Country, Spain) in 2010. Our songs include strong influences from the best classic Heavy Metal bands, acoustic guitar passages and some atmospheric landscapes. When Alex and I were left alone at the head of the project, we decided to continue with professional musicians. We have been fortunate to be able to count with great musicians from the area which has greatly enriched the Project.
- Give in more detail, some information about “Blackhearth album and how well it sells?
(Alex) In the last two years we have been working really hard to get the first album written, recorded, mixed and mastered. When we planned to record the album we only wanted to spread our name and to see how people reacted towards our music. The album immediately had success in both terms: sales and critical reception. We certainly didn’t expect this huge response… of course we are very thankful to all these people who have helped us so far by supporting Blackhearth.
- Blackhearth has signed with Sliptrick records, tell more about that?
(Alex) We did send the album to some labels/distros for a possible distribution and that’s how Sliptrick records got interested. We talked a few times with them and finally we decided to sign with the record to release the album worldwide. I hope they can bring Blackhearth to the next level. We are pretty confident that we can work on these goals together with Sliptrick Records and set even new and higher goals for the band in the future.
(Asier) When we started with this project we didn´t expect to obtain this reviews and critics. We had always said that it will be great to have the support of a label, but we couldn’t imagine that would be possible with the first album, so we are really happy to work side by side with Sliptrick records, in this way Blackhearth can be known/listened all around the world
- What is the difference between your latest and the very first records?
(Alex) It is a logical continuation but the sound of the CD is better. Every time we are doing a new album we try to top the last one and hopefully this time it worked! I think the new songs are better thought and maybe a little bit more technical.
(Asier) Having a keyboard has completely changed the songs, when we recorded our first singles we were a five-member band without keyboard, this made the songs sound rawer. When Alex and I were left alone we modified some parts of the songs, giving them more coherence and wrote the latest ones to shape the new album.
- What inspires Blackhearth music and lyric writing? What does Blackhearth lyrics talk about?
(Alex)To tell you the truth, I don’t know, this is our style and in that way it comes from our heart. It’s something deep inside us that has to come out, and we can explain it in any other way than through the songs. The lyrics of our songs deal mostly about human emotions like sadness, day-to-day problems and subjects like that, just topic we like to talk about, no more and no less.
(Asier) Apart from our tendency to a melancholy dark style, our experiences, life style and emotional state make each song special and relevant for us
- Do you play live often? Do you like abroad gigs?
(Alex) I think we will go on tour in the beginning of April by the end of May here in Basque Country. But we might play any festival next year or the year after, I don’t know. As long as we don’t receive any acceptable offer, it doesn’t make sense to do a show.
(Asier) Nowadays our main goal is to show Blackhearth’s strengthen in live. We will try to perform all the concerts that are possible all throughout the year in Basque Country as Alex has said. Even if playing abroad would be a dream comes true we still have to wait. Time to Time
- How often does the band practice and work on new material?
(Alex) We’re always gathering ideas for new song, but we’re also happy we don’t need to write them for a while, because it’s a really exhausting process for us. For now it’s just enjoying all attention we’re getting and all cool things that are ahead of us! It depends on what comes to our mind.
(Asier) After the presentation concert in December we’ve taken some weeks off. 2019 has been a really intense year for us. Now, with renewed strength we have started working on the new material as there are many ideas to move forward with the project.
- How did the band come up with the name Blackhearth and tell what does it means for you?
(Alex) I came up with it while I was having a bath. Blackhearth is the special meaning of a place between life and death, that’s the meaning behind it.
- What does the band plan on doing in near time?
(Alex) Playing concerts all over Basque Country. Then we have to write new songs for the next record so, the next months we will be very busy for us.
(Asier) We will try to play in live as much as we can so that more people can get to know us in Basque Country, as Alex has said. We will combine the concerts with the composition of the new album, so this year promises to be exciting
- Any message to Sick and Destroy readers?
(Alex) Of course! We really hope you like our new record. And we really hope at some point we can play in Europe, it’d be a dream come true for us.
(Asier) Thank you first of all sick and destroy and all your followers for the support, hopefully they will enjoy this record as much as we have done creating it. See you at the concerts.
