Interview Kill City Kills

  • Hi! Give a brief history of the band, music style, and the members.

Ellis: Kill City Kills is a fresh blood heavy metal band. I’m Ellis and I do vocals in this sick orchestra. We started this in 2017 coz it was kinda inevitable, you know. With all this experience behind our backs with our past bands in different genres, we had nothing to do, but to start a heavy metal band with attitude. So here we are.

Nikki: Hi, I’m Nikki. History? Well, I think it was like: «Hey dude, check out my riffs. Wanna do something badass out of it?». I play guitars in KCK. And also we do backing vocals. All of us.

Andrew: My name is Andrew. I think that our music style is named melodic heavy metal. Melody is supposed to be first, but when I play the drums, you should headbang like crazy haha.

  • Give in more detail, some information about your latest album and how well it sells?

Ellis: We made this EP “Straight from the Heart of Nowhere” out of our first written tracks. It was released in September of 2018 and now we are going to re-release it on Sliptrick Records. And thank to our fans all around the globe, we sold out the first batch of physical copies.

Nikki: In my book of memoirs, it will be a large part describing the process of recording and making it. In brief: I broke my rib during the record sessions.

Andrew: High times, low life! Speaking of sales, I think the best sales were in Japan. Customs even arrested one shipment once. But that was okay in the end.

  • You have signed with Sliptrick records, tell more about that?

Ellis: Yes, and we are excited about it! Guys in Sliptrick Records are super nice.

Nikki: It’s great, because we can leave sales and marketing to the label, while we can focus on the second release.

Andrew: The most appropriate label that could adequately explain what we gain and how we will monitor the implementation of commitments. It’s pretty cool! Can’t wait the release date!

  • What inspires your music and lyric writing? What do your lyrics talk about?

Nikki: I like to make music when I’m full of negative feelings. More aggressive melodies and riffs come out of it. I enjoy the process. Ellis will tell about lyrics.

Ellis: Well, inspiration is something you can’t drive like a car. But when it comes, you become a racer. I write lyrics here, and it comes out from my experience and vision on our lives. I like the idea of the rebel spirit breaking free in the world of confusion. When the world is coming down, but you laugh like a psycho and enjoy simple things. It’s hard to describe.

Andrew: Riot and protest inside of you. When everybody goes in one way, but you say “Fuck it” and go against the crowd.

  • Do you play live often? Do you like abroad gigs?

Ellis: As I said, we are pretty young band. We play live not so often, but it’s a temporary phenomenon. KCK live is something you won’t forget haha.

Nikki: I like play live more than sitting my ass of at the studio. Abroad gigs and tours – just can’t wait! I do love to discover rock crowd people in other countries. At first you think that we are different, but sooner you find out that they are the same sick bastards as we are.

Andrew: Yeah! That’s what we are up to! With our music and style we are not so welcome here, in Russia. But I believe, that things will change soon.

  • How often do the band practice and work on new material?

Andrew: This is a continuous process, you breathe this feeling and all your actions are somehow aimed at composing new music or developing as a musician.

Nikki: I practice everyday like the others. And we do rehearsals if we need it. If there is something serious coming up, we can work on new material 24/7

Ellis: That’s right. Music is first. And we practice backing vocals together. So much fun!

  • How did the band come up with the name and tell what does it means for you?

Ellis: When we started this band, Kill City Kills was just a cool band name on the top of our list. Now it means our band, and have a special meaning for us.

Nikki: Yeah, it was kinda easy to choose this band name.

Andrew: As for me, it’s the first band name that has no special meaning in it.It just sounds awesome. When there is not much sense, then you’re free from putting yourself in the frame. And what is most important – your fans represent you the way you want, and not what you pretend to be investing in the title makes too much sense.

  • What does the band plan on doing in near time?

Nikki: Conquer the world, as always haha. New music, more gigs, you know.

Ellis: We have a lot of new material and we gotta do something with it. All I can say right now – this autumn is going to be killer. Stoked!

Andrew: New release will melt your brains. Stay tuned!

  • Any message to Sick and Destroy readers?

Ellis: You guys are the best. Listen to good music and treat yourself right. Raise your fists up! KCK have something to say! Cheerz!

Niiki: Stay true.

Andrew: Sleazy going sick motherfuckers is coming! Better lock your doors and hide your daughters.
