Interview Eigenstate Zero

Hi, Eigenstate Zero. Greetings from Sick and Destroy team. What are you up to these days?

Cheers!
Working, writing my next album and drinking bourbon.

Would you please introduce your band to our readers who are not aware of your band and music?

I am just a one man band as it were. Trying to make death metal with melody, brutality and a bit of prog. Or alot of prog these last months actually, it’s getting more eclectic by the day.

Give us a little insight into the formation of the band. When and how did it happen?

January 2018, picked up a guitar and wrote the first riff, a riff that ended up in the song “Godeater”.

At what age did you guys start playing instruments? Since when are you into metal music?

At 15-16 I started playing drums, that’s when I got obsessed with the now-classic work released by such bands as Death and Morbid Angel which pretty much blew my mind back then. Been playing guitar on/off throughout my life

Eigenstate Zerois about to release “Sensory Deception”. Tell us something about it. Walk us through all the tracks lyrics and meaning.

The way I look at it’s a musical diary from 18 months of intense creativity. Some older songs could be cut, like Godeater and Decoherence but I decided to keep them all, for personal reasons, which strategically is not the best choice but that´s the way I roll. Conceptually I return to the simulated universe, the nature of reality through different subject-vehicles such as religion, the ruling elite (illuminati?), science, religion, the informationwar, the postmodernist movement and some pure scifi. Musically it started out with me just wanting to jam som At The Gates and by now it’s more of a thing actually trying to understand what Frank Zappa was doing. We have straightforward songs like ”Decoherence” and ”Fringe” – the latter which someone today refered to as tech-death – a style which I have very little insight into – to songs like ”Transhuman” and ”Strangelets”, 10 minute pieces with weird twists and turns. 1984.2 is an interesting song, first time I used a droptuning and it got me a very different melodicism, almost neoclassical. A catchy little cut which takes a look at the current onstruction of a dystopia.

When and where did you play your first gig? How was the experience of going live for the first time?

This is a studio project, I play new songs to my wife and dogs, that’s about it. 🙂

What, according to you, is the secret behind band’s success?

To the extent Eigenstate Zero has any success at all it´s based in the fact that I got everything together, alot of hard work went into this release. Additions to this is a nice bonus. Like you asking me questions.

If asked to differentiate Eigenstate Zero from other bands in your country, how would you like to respond to it?

I would not, that’s for others to occupy their minds with, I just enjoy creativity.

Which bands/ artists do you draw your influences from? Which are your favorite local bands?

I love me some Frank Zappa, BTBAM and At The Gates; also been been listening to some newer interesting bands like Omnerod and Dawn Of Nil. As far as the local bands , well, been spinning new Opeth alot this last week. I also noticed Eventide has some new stuff cooking, if you are into classic melodeath you should not sleep on them. ☺

How do you manage job and music?

It sucks quite frankly, fortunately I can take time off regularly but you always need money so… it’s an unbalanced existence.

Eigenstate Zero is a very promising formation. Talking of your future, 5 years from now, where do you see yourself?

Thank you! I hope I get to release my music on vinyl. I probably will have to do it myself but so be it. Labels should take note.

Well, that’s it. Thanks a lot for your time. Speak out to all your fans and supporters.

Thanks for taking the time!

Thanks for giving my music a chance and if you have not, do!
