Good day VEIL OF CONSPIRACY! How are you guys doing these days?
Hi, we’re doing good, thanks!
First of all, please introduce your band and band members to our readers.
We’re Veil of Conspiracy from Rome, and the current line up is: Chris De Marco, voice; Luca Gagnoni, guitars; Emanuela Marino, guitars; Andrea Manno, bass and, last but not least, Davide Fabrizio on drums.
I’d like to know about the formation of the band. How did you guys meet and all. Also, is there any special story behind the band title?
Luca: I met Chris 3 years ago but I knew him as a guitarist and I really didn’t expect he had been such a great singer. I knew Davide before Veil of Conspiracy too because I share the stage with his band once. I know Emanuela from more than 10 years, we played in different local bands, and I met Andrea through the suggestion of a person we know. About the band name, it came from the willing to give voice to the obscure dimension that’s part of our music.
I expect a long reply to this one. Can you please tell us about the concept and lyrical themes of all your previous releases?
The album is focused on mental illness in its manifestations and its multiple, darkest faces, such as schizophrenia, depression, obsession, up to and including murder and suicide, both always dictated by profound mental distress. We find that these themes are, unfortunately, increasingly recurrent in everyday life.
Is there any special reason for choosing your music conception?
We choose these themes because we thought they were in line with what we wanted to express through our music.
How do you guys manage to create music at all? What challenges do you face while writing and recording an album?
A song always comes out very spontaneously, from a riff or an arpeggio, or from any melody we believe it can be developed at its best, taking care of every single detail. So the main challenge is to create something that we think people can like.
Me, Us and Them was released on February. How was the experience working on the studio?
Any funny or even sad happenings during the studio work? The studio experience was great, we worked so relaxed and we had a lot of fun recording the album.
You guys are still underground/underrated, although your music has been appreciated by the critics worldwide. What, according to you, is the reason behind it?
We’re so glad our music has been appreciated by the critics worldwide, and we’ll try to bring it as far as possible.
Can you throw some light on your past as musicians?
Each one of us played with some local bands during the past years, sharing the stage with big bands and not and recording studio albums with other musical projects.
Tell us about your favorite bands, from whom you gain inspiration. Are you having any favorite artist/band that has emerged from metal/rock soil?
We mostly take inspiration from bands like Katatonia, Opeth, Soen, Nevermore, Swallow the Sun and more bands with that dark and melancholic mood.
How is the metal scene going in your country?
Unfortunately, not so well as in other places…
Tell us, if you have played abroad.
Not yet, but we’re planning some dates outside Italy.
Are you working on any music videos, might it be a video clip or lyric video?
Yes, in the next weeks a lyric video of our second single will be out, together with some other surprises, so stay tuned for every update on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/veilofconspiracyband
