Interview Ars Onirica

Hi! Give a brief history of Ars Onirica, music style, and the members.

The band has formed in the beginning of 2000; at the time the musical style was influenced by extreme music and in particular by death metal bands such as Opeth and Dark Tranquillity. Ars Onirca style nowadays is more influenced by doom and black metal bands such as the old Katatonia, Anathema, Forgotten Tomb, Shining, and some atmospherical prog like Steven Wilson, Opeth and Ihsahn.

Give in more detail, some information about “I: Cold” and how well it sells?

The album has been released a month ago, so it’s too soon to speak about sells. The album has been recorded between July and August 2018 at Blue Ocean recording studio (please visit his facebook page)  of my bandmate in my other project Invernoir Lorenzo Carlini. As a one man band, I’ve recorded the instruments and vocals by myself, it was the first time, it was very challenging but I’m really proud of the final result.

Ars Onirica has signed with BadMoodMan Music, tell more about that?

I’m really happy about that, I am also a fan of the label (is a division of Solitude productions) and I really love bands such has Comatose Vigil, Rome in Monochrome, Helevorn, Helllight. When they answered my email with a contract proposal I was out of my head, it’s one of the best labels for a doom band.

What is the difference between your latest and the very first records?

It was so many years ago…we were a band of 5 adolescents, in “Utopia” you can hear a lot of melodic death influences that now are not so clear; the main composer at the time was Luca Galeffi and he was a huge fan of Opeth and Dark Tranquillity 🙂

What inspires Ars Onirica music and lyric writing? What does Ars Onirica lyrics talk about?

The lyrics are always inspired by my life, in this album the main theme is the sense of loss when you loose someone in your life and you can’t do anything to avoid that… you just have to try to find a way to accept your pain

Do you play live often? Do you like abroad gigs?

Not often, unfortunately this is not my main work and sometimes I have to say “no” to the proposals that I receive. Playing abroad is always great, it’s cool to meet different cultures and ways to live metal music.

How often do the band practice and work on new material?

I’m alone, so when I’m inspired I take my guitar and my pc and try to do my best recording some ideas. For the live gigs I have some friends that help me to bring Ars Onirica on stage but we do rehearsals only if we have a scheduled concert.

How did the band come up with the name Ars Onirica and tell what does it means for you?

The name was created by the past members Luca Galeffi and Alessio “Agares” Brugiotti. It means “art of dreams” in latin and I think that it represents really well the atmospheres that the music transmits.

What does the band plan on doing in near time?

I’m seeing the results of the hard work of these months, I’m reading reviews, doing interviews like this one, I’m planning the future of this project in function of this results, the only thing that I can tell you is that Ars Onirica will play in November at Doom Heart Fest with other great bands such as Helevorn and Ghosthearth Nebula but I can’t tell you more, you’ll see in the future 🙂
