Hi! Give a brief history of Target, music style, and the members.
(Andy) The band comes from the 2004 approximately in a very naive version, where the youth and the desire were above professionalism. The band has mutated in style. We do not like to put labels on ourselves, we let people do it for us.
The currently line up:
Luis Soto / Guitars
Andrés Piña / Vocals
Rodrigo Arias / Drums
Fernando Gonzales / Bass.
Give in more detail, some information about “Deep water Flames” and how well does it sells?
(Andy) It has been a surprise the level of exposure that the album has had in such a short time. In terms of sales the pre-order has worked very good and the sales through digital format in bandcamp exceeded any expectations to date. Australis Records, our record label, has helped us with all the administrative support to be able to face in a good way the management of high level merchandising. We are very happy about that.
Target has signed with Australis Records, tell more about that?
(Andy) Australis records is our record label for many years. He helped us to release our first LP – Knot of Centipedes (2011). We are very happy to be able to work with the most important Chilean record label today. Australis has given us the level of exposure we were looking for and it is very important to us to have its feedback in order to work in synchrony in the management and administration of our album as a product. Australis Records is definitely showing that it works on a world class level.
What is the difference between your latest and the very first records?
(Andy) I think the differences are part of the natural growth process of the band over the years. The band has evolved and we have grown as humans and musicians. That clearly is a seal that the band has kept since its conception.
Nowadays we merge several styles. It is not premeditated, it is rather something that comes out quite naturally. We think that our first albums show quite how old we were at the time of making them; young, unpretentious, and quite naive. We believe that life and its variables have made us mature to be able to feel and create music in a different way. Obviously with more dynamics. It’s like we see extreme music today. Maybe in the future it will be even more different, who knows.
What inspires Target music and lyric writing? What does Target lyrics talk about?
(Andy) It will sound something cliche, but it inspires us life itself. What happens to us every day, but not from an explicit point of view. We like to be able to make analogies and stories based on what we feel here and now. Maybe the topics and concepts change in the future. Everything will depend on what we are feeling at that specific moment.
Do you play live often? Do you like abroad gigs?
(Andy) We love to play live, it is very motivating to be able to share with musicians and friends, besides knowing many places of your country. We hope with this new record to be able to play live as much as we can, and if it is possible, to tour over South America and Europe.
How often does the band practice and work on new material?
(Andy) We consider ourselves an effective band. We try to rehearse every week but when we have a concert nearby we try to prepare rehearse a little bite more to be fair and responsible with our music. We are currently working on new music, I can tell you that the band is in very good health and we have a lot of fuel for the next steps as a band. The future looks very good!
How did the band come up with the name Target and tell what does it means for you?
(Andy) It is a question we have been asked many times and that is no secret. At the beginning of the band we were looking for something short, effective and easily remembered. Target was adhoc in that minute and over the years we really found a real sense. Fulfilling our goals as musicians to take our art to a next level is definitely our main Target.
What does the band plan on doing in near time?
(Andy) Promote our new album DWF as much as we can, play as much in Chile, and if possible abroad. Compose new music and not stop this train that comes at high speed and loaded with ideas. The music of Target came to stay.
