Interview Germ Bomb

Hi! Give a brief history of Germ Bomb, music style, and the members.

Hey! Well its me (Pierre) on drums and Hampus on vocals and guitar (also bass in studio).
We started for about 10 years ago when bass player in our former punk rock band Hathor quit. We were pretty fed up with everything so had to restart in some way and Germ Bomb was born.
As in our previous band, Motörhead and GBH were a big influence but also metal bands like Toxic Holocaust and Celtic Frost influenced us this time. Since then we released 4 albums and 2 splits with Brasilian Whipstriker.
People seems to have problems to put us in some music style category and we really don’t care about genres. We listen to a lot different music, maybe thats why we’re so hard to categorized. We use to say as Lemmy “We play rock!”

Give in more detail, some information about “Gist Sucked Out”?

Its been a long process this time, we recorded this album sep-dec 2017 in Kust studios in Gothenburg with Anders Borgh behind the knobs and Martin Ehrencrona (Viagra Boys, In Solitude) did the mixing, Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna) mastered. We worked really hard with this album and I think we got pretty close to our vision that we had in our heads..

Germ Bomb has signed with Metal Race records, tell more about that?

Our previous lable weren’t very active anymore so we hade to look for someone else to work with and Metal Race were up for releasing our new record.

What is the difference between your latest and the very first records?

The biggest difference maybe is that we don’t have the very fast songs this time. The first one was something of a fast ahead metal punk album when this new one is more of a dark apocalyptic rock’n’roll album.

What inspires Germ Bomb music and lyric writing? What does Germ Bomb lyrics talk about?

Most theme for songs are about a world in decay, the greed of mankind and we will eventually destroy ourselves. We dont care for politics that much, we think they are corrupt!
They probably won’t change because society will always be rotten and unjust.

Do you play live often? Do you like abroad gigs?

We haven’t played that much gigs since we are a duo and have to find bass player for every gig but we actually have some guys that can join us more often now so we will definitely try to play more gigs. We have gigs planed in Oslo, Strömstad and Gothenburg as far this spring.
Yeah, we like abroad gigs and would love to take a tour around Europe or something like that!

How often does the band practice and work on new material?

We try to rehearse ones a weak. Right now we rehearse some old songs for upcoming gigs but will start writing new material as soon as we got this new album out of our brains.

How did the band come up with the name Germ Bomb and tell what does it means for you?

It came up while listening to an old Dead Kennedys song. It were in the lyrics and we thought it sounded cool. The biological warfare theme of the band name fits very well with the apocalyptic, we’re all fucked, themes in the lyrics.

What does the band plan on doing in near time?

The plan is to play as much live as possible now, as i wrote above we have some gigs planed but hopefully there will be more! And then see if we can get some inspiration for writing some new songs.

Any message to Sick and Destroy readers?

Rock’n’roll is the only way!!
