Interview Hulkoff

Hi, Hulkoff. Greetings from Sick and Destroy team. What are you up to these days?

Hey. I am in the middle of moosehunting here, trying to put some meat in the freezer. Otherwise, we just finished up a bonus track for the Russian release of “Kven”. It is a heavy tune. Perfect for headbanging.

Would you please introduce your band to our readers who are not aware of your band and music?

Well, this is not a band in the usual sence of the word. This is my soloproject, and I’ve recruited some top of the line performers to hammer out the tunes with me.

Give us a little insight into the formation of the band. When and how did it happen?

I met Anders when he was performing a jazz gig. We got along well and share the same view on a lot of things. He wanted his boys to be in the band, and I thought it was a pretty cool idea.

At what age did you guys start playing instruments? Since when are you into metal music?

I can’t speak for the others but I started playing guitar when I was nine. Discovered metal around eleven.

Tell us something about “Kven”. Walk us through all the tracks lyrics and meaning.

There is a historical connection throughout the album, not always bound to actual happenings but there is a certain warrior vibe within every tune.

How has been the response so far by the listeners? Have you started working on new songs already?

Very good yeah. Yes we released the track Beastmode in June and will be releasing a couple more singles before the swedish tour that starts in October.

When and where did you play your first gig? How was the experience of going live for the first time?

I actually don’t remember. I was around nine or ten when I played my first. This band played the debut at the house of metal festival in the north of Sweden.

What, according to you, is the secret behind band’s success?

The secret lies within strong material and powerful live performances. That is the only recipe that works in the long run. In combination with some kind of originality. And most important of all soul and genuine passion for the topics.

If asked to differentiate Hulkoff from other bands in your country, how would you like to respond to it?

No comparison. This is something else.

Which bands/ artists do you draw your influences from? Which are your favorite local bands?

Many different bands. Love metal, country, bluegrass, industrial and lots and lots of classical music. Not familiar with the local scene atm. Don’t think much is going in right now.

How do you guys manage jobs and gigs? Also how often do you guys gathering altogether just to fun?

Gigs are work. I run the label and have my own studio. I compose for various constellations. We don’t hangout besides work. I live over 1500 km north of the rest of the boys.

Hulkoff is very promising formation. Talking of your future, 5 years from now, where do you see yourself?

Right here. Hunting and fishing and building and farming. Still making the music I love. Metal, country or bluegrass or folk or whatever. Playing shows and living life the way I need to.

Well, that’s it. Thanks a lot for your time. Speak out to all your fans and supporters.

Hey y’all. I hope you will enjoy all the new stuff coming out. Stay safe out there in this crazy world. Know that I care about you all and I hope we meet on tour very soon!
Best from the arctic circle.
