Interview Tamirel

Hi! Tell me about Tamirel. Why did you decide to name the band with such title? What kind of ideas do you explore?

As I remember, the name of the band comes from 2009 or maybe a few years earlier. It is a phantasy name . I did not want to use any words with meaning as the name ofthis band. But our name is a mistery, and I want keep it in this unkown shadow. Sorry bud! J

“You And The World” album was released about one week ago. How does that make youfeel? Do you feel you have put album into masses without any wishes to change something now?

It is impossible, to finish an album without any wishes to change after it‘s released. I can Still hear some things, I would change now, but I released it, and the feeling is naturally. Moreover it was a too long journey with ‘You And The World’ album. It was almost 8 years since I started to write these songs. I hope you do not have to wait such a long time for the next one. J

Tell me more about “You And The World”?

Well, it is an album with a concept, a journey about how the individual or the person break-through the wall of depression, how he or she come out from this kind of dark pit of life.
If you are listening the songs, you will hear how the darkness of around the first few tracks will disappear by the end of the album.
After the album intro ‘The Dark Side Of The Mood’ in which you can hear my baby voice and my parent’svoice from 1991 the first track is Somedays, when the soul longing back for the childhood, this is a sad nostalgic starting point of the album, but I think it shows the main character of the entire record.
Her Last Words is a sad love song. After the first few lines of the lyrics, you can get a depressive state of mind in the story. It has so much Clapton in it but the sickpart at the end makes it a very special song I think.
All Seasons In The Sky is about that thin line from the deepest pit of depression, when the man gets too close to the madness and too far from the common sense by the solitude and alienation of the self.
Hesitant Soul is the first clear song on the album. The chorus is as bright as the lines are. Why don’t you put it on some pop chart?! J
Woodlands is an ode to a forest in Maine. I love its lyric, its a nice poem I think. The beauty of the Naure makes capable to the Person, to get rid of all the bad feelings.
Here When Now is another love song, but i tis a happy one, our hero find somebody else instead of the formergirl he cried for a few tracks before….:)
Learnings is the most philosophycal song. It isexistentionalist, and releasing. I think a good lifephilosophy concentrated in its lines, as a cure fordepression and sadness.
Rapid Eye Movements is the outro which is a piano piece of Júlia Lantos arranged by Ádám Dénes. I deeply grateful for this song for both of these talentedfriends of mine.

Where do you take all inspiration from?

Well, musically from the 90’s pop music to sludge metal bands like crowbar everything can be an influence for amusic predator liek me. I used to be a big metal head, But nowadays blues and country music and a bottle of redwine or gintonic can clean my soul. Of course there are my all time favorites like Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Type O Negative, Alive In Chains, Opeth, Katatonia, Down.
But if you ask me, lyrically my own personal things and issues are the main sources of the words.

In your opinion, what is the best way to define Tamirel’s sound?

Well Tamirel sound can be complex, custom, psychedelic, heavy, celestial, deep , bright, dark, cleanand colorful.
I have two main electric guitars. One is a FenderStratocaster from 2003, I bought it in England in 2015. I am playing most of my solos and the clean electricguitar parts on the album on it. My guitar sound isinfluenced by David Gilmour mostly, but I think yougot it by yourself. J
Of course I can not hide my heavy metal heart, so thereare another guitar of mine, she is Morrowind, a customhandmade princess bulit to me. Similar to a PRS Custom 24 with a twist. It sound so heavy on the drive channel of My SL Amp GR-30. I love it!
What is GR-30? Its another custom stuff? Yeah, thats a two channel magic amp by the hungarianamp builder László Somogyi. Pure handwired, all tube bastard. J

So, are you on hiatus now, just relaxed and looking for album feedbacks, or have you started to compose new stuff immediately?

Last wintertime I wrote a new album. It going to be a concept album as well with new music influences and brighter topic, but it will be an original Tamirel stuff! Fortunately I got the band behind me, so we are planning to arrange the new so songs with the band and round September would be great to start the recordings.

What is the new album about?

Well, about travelling and places I lived in thelast 5 years.

What are your main musical influences? How huge is their influence in your sound?

Well, i think you will be suprised, ig I tell you the bands are mostly influenced You and the World.

Let’s hear them!

Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Alice In Chains, Type O Negative, Crowbar, Tátrai Band, Vaya Con Dios, Gipsy Kings, Eric Clapton. Sometimes themusical influence are coming from the childhood and ithas an indirect effect on you. Do you remember whatyou father was listening to when you were 5? Maybeno, but I am sure you discovered those bands and albums later in your life.

That is 100% correct! Woow, what a mixed list of genres anyway….

Yeah, so that’s why we can talk about Tamirel as a progressive rock band.

Is there some well-known musician in particular that you would like to participate in one of your upcoming albums?

There is a hungarian singer out there a legendary voice. In my opinion he is the greatest voice of all time. His name is Charlie Horváth, he is like Joe Cocker withextra 80 % on his voice. If he were born in the States, he would be more famous than Joe. Anyway it wouldbe cool to singin along with him one day!

What is your personal strategy for making your music heard by a larger audience?

Currently we are looking for a label or a manager orboth. I hate show business and I do not have time to do that. I could not do that though. I am considering mselfas an artist or a songwriter Nowadays „pushing-myelf-in-all-the doors“ mentality is not mine. I am fine withmy music. Sometimes I killing some money for marketing or promo things, but basically I would liketo concentrate for the next albums, or the upcominglive shows.

Do you have any other hobby beside music?

I like hiking and traveling around the world. But music is my main hobby or my passion or whatever they say.J

Are you all supported by your relatives towards your devotion to music?

My parents are supporting me since they heard “You and the World”. But I have 10 hard years behind my back when nobody was there.

How’s the metal scene in Hungary right now? Is it easy to play gigs, to buy records etc there these days?

I do not follow the hungarian metal scene anymore. Playing good live shows is the hardest part with thiskind of music. There are just a few venue which onesare able to sound good, but those ones are to huge fora small band like Tamirel is. We can sell maximum 100 tickets, for this size of audience there are just venueswith awful sound.

Thank you for answering my questions, see ya on the road!

Cheers!
