Good day Aeolian! How are you guys doing these days?
Hello, currently, we are rehearsing and preparing our live show while the promo of the album is beginning.
First of all, please introduce your band and band members to our readers.
Well, Aeolian is basically a Melodic death Metal band from Majorca (Spain). It began as a project looking for the rest of the band members, while I was composing the songs.
Finally we completed the line up with Dani, as a singer, Alberto, the drummer, Gabi, guitarist, Toni, the bassist and Raúl, guitar.
I’d like to know about the formation of the band. How did you guys meet and all. Also, is there any special story behind the band title?
I met Dani (the singer) 25 years ago. We have the same musical tastes and we played in our last band called Battlehorn. I met Gabi when I joined the local Surf&Rock band Hattori Hanzo Surf Experience, in which he is the lead guitarist and I play trombone. I know Toni and Alberto from the Majorcan Metal scene. They are the bassist and drummer in Aeolian. Toni has played with bands like Helevorn and Goreinhaled and Alberto plays with the Black Metal band Inferitvm.
It was so difficult to find a band title, but finally we chose Aeolian for its relation with the forces of nature. The origin of the word is Aeolus, the Greek God of wind.
I expect a long reply for this one. Can you please tell us about the concept and lyrical themes of all your previous releases?
I’m sorry but I can´t give you a long replay for this one because Silent Witness is our first release. What I can tell you is that our lyrical themes call for the need to protect the environment. For example the opening song, Immensity, talks about the micro plastics problem in the oceans and Return of the Wolf king about the disastrous culling of wolves in the Yellowstone natural reserve.
Is there any special reason for choosing your music conception?
Yes it is. The actual situation we are live in scares me more than any history of terror. I would like to make my contribution to raise people’s awareness.
How do you guys manage to create music at all? What challenges do you face while writing and recording an album?
I just take my guitar and try to play something different, something; I would like to listen to. You need to be inspired for it, if not, it’s better to leave it and try again the next day.
The main challenge is the lack of inspiration when you are composing the album, all the other things, like the recording, does not only depend on you. On the other hand, you need a good amount of money to get a satisfactory final result of the album.
Silent Witness to be released on September. How was the experience working on the studio? Any funny or even sad happenings during the studio work?
Recording an album is a hard and satisfying experience at the same time. When you are in the recording process, you get nervous because you want to do the best, but when you listen to the result, you feel good and proud.
We have some histories that happened at the recording studio. For example we had to change the lyrics of one of my favourite songs because the singer didn’t like it.
You guys are still underground/underrated, although your music has been appreciated by the critics worldwide. What, according to you, is the reason behind it?
The main reason is our record label Snow Wave. They are promoting the band all around the world.
Can you throw some light on your past as musicians?
As I said before, Toni played in Desmodus, the Brutal Death bands Goreinhaled, Descomposed Torso and the Doom Metal band Helevorn. Alberto also played in Desmodus, Descomposed Torso, and the Black Metal band Inferitvm. Dani was the singer of Desmodus and founded the Viking Metal band Battlehorn. Gabi played in lots of local Rock bands and in the Surf&Rock band Hattori Hanzo Surf Experience. And I enjoyed playing guitar with Helevorn in its early years, in Battlehorn until last year and play trombone in Hattori Hanzo Surf Experience.
Tell us about your favorite bands, from whom you gain inspiration. Are you having any favorite artist/band that has emerged from metal/rock soil?
Over the years there were lots of bands which inspire us; some of them are Opeth, Amorphis, Borknagar, Carcass, Death, Kreator, Mors Principium Est, Insomnium, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity.
One of the local bands which inspired us is called Golgotha. Above all with its first album called Melancholy.
How is the metal scene going in your country?
Currently there is a good Metal scene in Spain. Bands like Angelus Apatrida or Crisix have got a great acceptance in the world Metal scene signing with labels like Century Media and Listenable Records.
Tell us, if you have played abroad.
For now, we haven’t played abroad yet, but, it’s on our mind
Are you working on any music videos, might it be videoclip or lyric video?
Yes, we have 2 lyric videos done and we are working for release a video clip in early autumn
Rapid fire section. Just for fun. So just chill, and just type the first thought that comes to your mind when you hear:
* Silence – relax
* Death to … – nobody
* Doomed with … – prison
* Drugs – no thanks
* Jimmy … – Hendrix
Thanks a lot for your time! It’s really nice to know more about you. Would you like to say anything to your fans and our readers?
Thanks to you, it was a pleasure for us to answer the interview.
