Hail, welcome to Sick And Destroy. Before we start the interview, I would like you to introduce yourself to our readers. To begin with where are you from and a brief history about your band?
Hi! We are Black Rose, a melodic heavy metal band from Fagersta in Sweden.
When we started out, we wanted to play the music that we love.
The lineup consists of drummer Peter Haga, bass player Anders Haga, guitarist Thomas Berg and vocalist Jakob Sandberg.
How would you describe your music? And what bands have influenced you the most?
Our style of music has been constant, even through all different music-trends that has come and gone. Our style have always been distinctive/recognizable riffs and memorable and powerful choruses
How many and which albums/demos has BLACK ROSE released so far?
Since the first album “Fortune Favours The Brave”, we have released four other albums: “Black Rose”, “Explode”, “Turn on the night” and the new “A light in the dark”.
Which ones happens to be your favourite songs? of BLACK ROSE and personal.
Jakob: My favourite Black Rose song is Sands of Time. Recently, I’ve been listening a lot to new Ghost song “Rats”.
Peter: Carry on is the best Black Rose song. Kamelot – Forever is a great song.
Anders: My favourite Black Rose song is Powerthrone. Sons of Apollo’s new song “God of the Sun” have been frequently played the last days.
Do you feel that BLACK ROSE’s music has changed over the years and how?
No we have stuck to our style, but we have developed and broadened our songwriting whitin our style. So it’s fairly consistant, like we stated earlier. One change over the years however, is the keyboards. We omitted the keyboards to just a few parts ever since “Turn on the night” and this is also true our new album “A light in the dark”.
How much time does it take for BLACK ROSE to record an album?
Of course it differs from album to album depending on the circumstances. “A light in the dark” was made over the course of two years, recorded on several different locations.
Tell us something more about ‘A Light In The Dark’.
The lyrics on the album are inspired by isolated personal events or historical events. Some of them are deliberately positive, and some of them deliberately negative, to make the album have both “light” and “dark” perspectives
The framework for the songs had been done for a long time when vocalist Jakob Sandberg joined the band. The writing process was at this point basically trying to make the lyrics and melody fit the already existing songs, and we adjusted them accordingly to fit the lyrics and vice versa.
Whats next? Working on any new EP etc? If so, some details please.
A new video with a track from the album will be released in the near future. After that, we will be looking to do as many gigs as possible to support the album.
Any tours, gigs for promotion of latest album?
We are holding a release party for our new album “A light in the dark” in our hometown, and after that, as we stated earlier, we will be looking to play a lot of gigs.
Any future plans for playing in Europe or USA?
We hope so! At this point nothing is confirmed, but we would love to play abroad in the not too distant future.
Has BLACK ROSE done any opening acts for other major heavy weight bands? If yes, then when and where?
We have been support act to bands like FATE, THE POODLES, MIKE TRAMP, PAIN OF SALVATION, NOCTURNAL RITES and SOUL SIGN (Yngwie-members).
Even gigs as backing band, at different times, for KEE MARCELLO (EUROPE) and JAN JOHANSEN (IGNITION, Swedish Eurovision song contest winner) and JAKOB SAMUEL (THE POODLES) has been done.
What do you feel about the Metal Scene there in your country?
There are a lot of good bands in Sweden representing all different metal genres so it’s fairly alive and kicking. However we have seen a general decline in live show opportunities, which is a shame.
