Hail, welcome to Sick And Destroy. Before we start the interview, I would like you to introduce yourself to our readers. To begin with where are you from and a brief history about your band?
We’re Hallux from Vancouver, BC and we formed in 2014. Ian and Mike began writing and jamming when their previous projects ended, and once they had something to work from Miles joined the band bringing in the final touch.
How would you describe your music? And what bands have influenced you the most?
We’re the classic 3 piece Thrash band. Relentless, high energy and straight to the point. We are influenced by early extreme metal bands like Celtic Frost, Venom, and Death as well as the current bands that bring back the classic, raw Thrash sound like Satan’s Wrath, Toxic Holocaust, and Power Trip.
How many and which albums/demos has Hallux released so far?
We released our first album in February this year and a demo in 2015 titled “Crud”
Which ones happen to be your favourite songs? of Hallux and personal.
Of our own, we are all fond of Yersinia Pestis as we think it encapsulates the essence of the band. And songs by other bands that sound like that are good, too.
Do you feel that Hallux’s music has changed over the years and how?
A lot of the writing has become more focused over time, and once the current line-up was solidified the direction of the band gained traction and we have been defining our own sound since.
How much time does it take for Hallux to record an album?
One week to record, and the entire process with mixing and mastering took two months and one day.
Tell us something more about the latest album ‘Hallux’ album.
This is our first album so it’s the culmination of our best work since the inception of the band. It’s a raw and direct album representative of the energy in our live performances.
What’s next? Working on any new album? If so, some details please.
We’ve begun writing some new material that will surely develop into a second album, but no real timeframe for a new record yet.
Any tours, gigs for promotion of latest album?
Planning a Western Canada tour for the fall and continue playing locally and around BC. Our next show is May 19th at Pub 340 in Vancouver with Empress and Vomitself.
Any future plans for playing in Europe or USA?
Yes. Nothing concrete, but planning to eventually cross some borders.
What do you feel about the Metal Scene there in your country?
There are a lot of strong pockets dispersed throughout the country. Vast and varied. A lot of distance between a lot of cities and every place has its own thing going, good or bad.
