For Those About to Squawk: Aura Noir, Graveyard, Goat Worship

Alright guys, your old boy Waldo here coming to kick out some jams… I’d like to say first that if you missed the second Decibel Metal and Beer Fest, you missed the peck out. A good time was had by all, so next year, you should, like, go already… get it?

I’m going to start out with Aura Noir and their new record… Aura Noire. I’m not too positive why it’s self titled (almost), but does that really matter?  What matters here is this is RIPPING-ass blackened thrash. I mean, this is pretty to the point. This is nine tracks of no frills, upbeat, aggressive thrash. If you’re thinking along the lines of Venom, Celtic Frost or early Bathory, you’d be spot on. Drummer Apollyon has even stated that he wanted the drums to be reminiscent of Sarcofago or older Sepultura. So, if all of this sounds good, it is. This is not some sort of rehashed thrash record, and by no means is it new ground, but it is lively and aggressive. So peck this the beak out! 7 Fucking Pecks

Graveyard, not that Graveyard, definitely not the rock and roll one… This is old school death metal, I mean old school. This is what I always expected from a band named Graveyard. Back To The Mausoleum is filthy-ass old school Euro death. I’m not really sure how you can get away with calling your band the same name as another bigger band, but hey, that’s metal, huh? This is doomy Swedish death metal and sounds like it to a “T.” There’s nothing super exciting, and also nothing super lame about this. It’s cool, but it doesn’t really knock my socks off, this is just solid Swedish death. I’d like to add that this is being released by War Anthem Records which is a division of the Party San music festival, so like this is cool.  6 Fucking Pecks.

So Goat Worship, they’re like a Bathory worship band… I mean, there’s not much to say here. You may ask why I’m reviewing it… well, because it rips. This is 100% a tribute to early Bathory. I mean, look at their record covers and font. This is cool,  definitely nothing new, but it’s good. So check out Shore of the Dead on Xtreem Music (XTREEM!) 6 Fucking Pecks.

Thanks, yo… Waldo.
