Track Premiere: Scarificare ‘Occult Radiance’

Portugal’s Scarificare take the speed and evilness of Setherial and the melodic qualities of Sacrilege (SWE) to come out sounding like a Portuguese version of Naglfar. The group’s new album, Tilasm, steps up all aspects–musicianship, artwork, lyrics, and production–as a way to elevate the Porto-based trio to international levels. While countrymen Moonspell are Portugal’s best known export, The Ominous Circle are leading the black metal charge, and Sinistro have taken doom metal to post-whatever heights, Scarificare are filling the death metal gap with a blackened spear.

The first song to premiere off Tilasm was opener ‘Crystal Skull.’ The feedback from ‘Crystal Skull’ was so positive, Scarificare and their label, Hellprod Records, decided to premiere another track, this time ‘Occult Radiance,’ a track that blends death, black, and doom (vocals, natch) metals into a brutal yet melancholic experience. To round out the meet ‘n’ greet, we asked guitarist/vocalist Mauricio Quetzalcoatl to comment on ‘Occult Radiance.’

“‘Occult Radiance’ was the first song to be composed for Tilasm. The original composition was created in late 2015, but through the studio recording in 2017, the song was been modified so that it would better synchronize with the rest of the album’s themes. This is a theme of many musical contrasts, combining transcendental atmospheres with brutal and faster parts. The lyrics of this song encompass all of Tilasm‘s conjuncture, basically telling us about a scientific theory that discusses the possibility to travel in space/time.”

Travel through the space-time continuum with Scarificare’s ‘Occult Radiance.’

** Scarificare’s new album, Tilasm, is out April 20th on Hellprod Records. Pre-orders are available HERE.
