Full Album Stream: Pissboiler – “In the Lair of Lucid Nightmares”

In the Lair of Lucid Nightmares is depressing. It’s the result of an unholy marriage between crawling funeral doom, noisy sludge and absolutely miserable drone. Clocking in at 45 minutes over the course of four songs, In the Lair of Lucid Nightmares is a hefty listen, but as a whole, the album is striking. By the end of closing track “Cutters,” you feel like you’ve heard an individual’s mind corrode into insanity as tortured shrieks ring out in the last moments, buried under feedback and noise, a sharp contrast to vocalist LG’s mournful growls.

“Where previous releases dealt with depression, anxiety and self-harm, In The Lair Of Lucid Nightmares deals with the attempt to escape a psychotic reality,” guitarist/drummer Karl Jonas Wijk tells Decibel. “I wrote the songs during a couple of weeks in December 2016 and the recording began in early 2017. We wanted to take this album to the next level in a variety of ways: some upgrades to the studio, more focus on our influences as well as a new approach to certain details, so we finished the production during the late summer of 2017.”

Of the artwork, Wijk adds, “The artwork, made by Ulf Nylin, was exactly what we had in mind for this release. Abstract shapes and beings in a fever dream you cant wake up from. Ulf’s painting captures the overall feeling of the album perfectly. We have some shows booked in 2018 and our goal is to spread the word of piss into eastern Europe ASAP.”
