Interview Iron Griffin

Hi! Give a brief history of Iron Griffin, music style, and the members.

Iron Griffin started as a one-man-band; the goal was (and is!) to improve myself as an artist and as an producer. Music style was very clear to me: heavy metal. And it is what it is!

Give in more detail, some information about self-titled album and how well it sells so far?

The self titled ep is a bunch of songs, which are made in about one year perioid. The composing began with the song ”Journey to the Castle of King”, and during that time I had no plans of making a full release. In fact I planned that song for Mausoleum Gate (my main band) at first, but then I got the inspiration in playing more guitar myself. It led me recording more demos, composing and writing lyrics. I made demos of two more songs (”Message From Beyond” and ”Metal Conquest”) and all the time it felt more like that I want to release a solo album/ep/or something. During that time I had an ispiration to start working with the possible cover art.

The fourth song (”Lord Inquisitor”) was the last nail in the coffin, I felt like these four songs gather and good entity, and started to think them as a whole. Thats where things started to shape out.

Iron Griffin has signed with Gates Of Hell Records, tell more about that?

I recorded the final versions of the songs in summer 2017, and after mixing it I was planning to release it as a demo cassette by myself. But of course I wanted to try my luck if someone would be crazy enough to release this as a vinyl mini-lp… And after a short negotiations, Gates of Hell was! I was overwhelmed and happy.

What inspires Iron Griffin music and lyric writing? What does Iron Griffin lyrics talk about?

I don’t see myself as a very talented lyricist, I usually compose the melody and write the lyrics in it. The most natural thing to me is write fantasy stuff, so it is pretty much anything that fits in; battles, swords, warlords, darkness, evil and light. That’s what I like.

Do you play live often? Do you like abroad gigs?

I would like to someday, but for now this is a one-man band.

How often does the band practice and work on new material?

I record stuff, try different things, plan, compose and write, and record again. That is how I work. I would like to do this more often than now, but the day work and other bands takes a lots of time!

How did the band come up with the name Iron Griffin and tell what does it means for you?

The name “Iron Griffin” is drawn from the Warhammer 40.000 universe, a mix of couple of space marine chapters: Iron Hands and Golden Gryphons. That’s where I came up with the name, at first it felt a bit pompous, but it grew on me. Iron Griffin is me.

What does the band plan on doing in near time?

My next goal will be a full length album. That, when or how it will be done, I cannot say. I will try to make it better than the first release, but it surely will take it’s time. But the process is on!

Any message to Sick and Destroy readers?
