Hey Sick and Destroy! Dark lord Skull Bong here.
Hi! Give a brief history of Putrescence, music style, and the members.
Putrescence is a gore grind band from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. We came together over our love for Carcass, General Surgery and Regurgitate…. bands of that genre. We had a few lineup changes over the years on guitar. But me (drums) and my brother (bass) Necromagnon and singer Soiled Depends have been in it since the beginning. The current and final lineup was Reeko Suave and R.I.P. on guitars. I played with both these dudes in another crust band called Flash Out. Great formula of members that helped developed the type of death metal we wrote on this last album.
• Give in more detail, some information about “Voiding Upon The Pulverized” and how well does it sells?
Voiding Upon The Pulverized is the final Putrescence album. Some of the members live in the different cities now and have other projects but we still wanted to finish with one last album. First full length with this lineup. Its no bullshit gore grind. Its available now on all formats! Death By Digital has released it on cassette. Unholy Anarchy & Fat Ass records did a beautiful blood splattered vinyl. And now Eclectic Productions has released the cd version.
• Putrescence has signed with Eclectic prod, tell more about that?
Eclectic first reached out to me to release Video Nasty by Zombie Assault. A Swedish death metal influenced band Necromagnon and I have. Super great label to work with. So when they offered to release the final Putrescence album on cd we were instantly stoked to do it with them. I was hoping we were going to get the album out on all formats so it all worked out perfectly.
• What is the difference between your latest and the very first records?
Our first album was very grind. I notice when I listen through the albums we got more death metal each time. But the old Putrescence sound still always lingers in there. I think a big part of this is because me and my brother have been part of the writing process since day one so there is always an underlying Putrescence sound.
• What inspires Putrescence music and lyric writing? What does Putrescence lyrics talk about?
We love horror flicks. This inspires a lot of the metal bands I play in. But Soiled Depends does tend to have a lot of humour in the tone of the lyrics which people came to know about Putrescence. He thinks up some of the most hilarious ways to die a brutal death. And my long time love of classic death metal.
• Do you play live often? Do you like abroad gigs?
I am very active in the other bands I play in. Putrescence in these final days just did festival shows. We used to tour quite a lot. Went to Europe once. Played Maryland Deathfest 3 times. Toured with Impaled and Fuck the Facts in Canada…..was a super fun tour. I was touring a lot with a thrash band called Untimely Demise as well. We did some cool tours with Massacre in Europe and a few dates on the Canadian Death to All/Obituary tour. I’m going to take a little break from touring for the next year as I’m expecting my first child April 2018. I do like playing the festival shows. I will always do those and Putrescence got a chance to have some final cool last shows at Obscene Extreme Montreal and the Maryland Deathfest. Next up my crust band Flash Out is playing Montreal in June 2018 with Nunslaughter and Wormrot. Should be a sick gig!
• How often does the band practice and work on new material?
We try to get together once a week. I also try to have one day a week to myself as well to keep my chops up. We all love jamming and still have fun playing tunes. So everyone is usually eager to work on new shit.
• How did the band come up with the name Putrescence and tell what does it means for you?
Necromagnon thought of it. It pretty much sums up what our music is….. rotting death metal!
• What does the band plan on doing in near time?
For now the band is on hiatus. We never say never to possibly playing again someday. But Voiding Upon the Pulverized is for sure our last album.
• Any message to Sick and Destroy readers?
