Hi, Lorelei. Your last album “Teni Oktyabrya” released via Solitude Productions. You must be excited?
Hey! Thanks for the invitation to this interview. Alexei Ignatovich is here to answer the questions regarding Lorelei new album.
We are really very excited, since we have been working on the album a lot for the last 4 years. This release is important, because we did our best to make it sound special and spent much time to reach the right sound.
First of all, we would like to know about the formation of the band. When and how was it formed?
Do you think the band name ‘Lorelei’ perfectly decribes your music and philosophy?
Oh, it’s a very long story, since it goes back to 2003. I created the band a year earlier but the name Lorelei was given in 2003, when I composed a song Lorelei and put H. Heine poem Lorelei to it. I am sure the name Lorelei perfectly reflects our music, its atmosphere and philosophy, because the maiden Lorelei associates with inevitable death and sufferings.
As for the band as a formation, I can say that the line up has been changed several times for many reasons. Now there are 7 members of the band, still including female vocals, but now we are abandoning it, making growls leading in all tracks. We keep searching something new to move further, because music should evolve, it just cannot remain in one and the same condition. It is like you cannot step into the same river twice. So, the same is with music. You create something and move further.
We are happy with the current line-up, we understand each other and that helps a lot in music creation.
Okay now tell us something about “Teni Oktyabrya”, and the lyrical themes behind each track. What are the ideas you wanted to put across?
Lyrics of “Teni Oktyabrya” (Shadows of October) is fully philosophical, it reflects my inner world and the way I see everything that happens around me. Though each poem is devoted to different topics, the idea of all lyrics is the same – the solitude of a man and sufferings he lives with in a hostile world. The lyrics is rather complicated, and unfortunately, not even every native speaker is able to fully understand it and the ideas it implies.
As for music, we tried to make it heavier this time, giving the leading position to guitars. To reach the right sound of compositions we also used piano mostly instead of strings. Though, strings are still used in several tracks. This album, in comparison with the previous one, is more complicated in many aspects.
Where and when did you record “Teni Oktyabrya”? Are you satisfied with it?
The recording process was rather long this time. We came across particular difficulties during drums recording. However, we overcame them, fortunately. We started recording in Cosmos Studio, Moscow, in January 2017 and finished in May. Arkadi Navaho did all recording, and he did it rather good. It is nice to work with such a professional, like Arkadi, who recorded a lot of great bands. And he is a nice guy. We are satisfied with the result. Arkadi also did mixing and mastering in his studio Navaho.
Are you gonna to release some official band merch.
We haven’t decided regarding merch yet. We are still thinking about it.
What are Lorelei’s musical and non-musical influences?
As for musical influences, I can say that absolutely different music genres and styles affect Lorelei, starting from classic music, like Skryabin or Rachmaninov or Prokofiyev or modern composers, up to heavy music, like Anathema or Black Sabbath, Esoteric etc.
As for non-musical, I think, I should mention fiction, first of all, films and life itself.
Could you please express your personal views on religion and god?
Frankly speaking, it’s hard to express anything on religion and god, since I have no time to think about such things.
Shall we expect some gigs across USA or Europe near time?
We would be extremely happy to have gigs in the USA and Europe, and if we get invitations, we will accept them at once.
When shall fans to expect something new from you? Videoclip, single, documentary etc?
We have already released two video on two tracks to support the album. And we are now working on new tracks. As for new video or single, we are thinking about this too.
Thanks a lot for the interview. Speak out to your fans, supporters, critics and our readers before we wrap up!
Thanks a lot for this interview too. After the release of the album, which was several days ago, we have already received a lot of positive feedback from fans. I would like to say thank you to everyone, who keeps supporting us. It is very important for every band, since this is a great motivation to move further.
So keep listening good music and stay doomed.
