Interview LOSTAIR

Good day LOSTAIR! How are you guys doing these days?

TEO LOST: Hi, actually we are working for the live release of the new album, a very special night with special guests.

First of all, please introduce your band and band members to our readers.

Lostair are: Teo lost-voice and guitar,Andy-guitar, Gorgi-bass, Emanuele (Stizza)-drum, we are an Italian metal band.

I’d like to know about the formation of the band. How did you guys meet and all. Also, is there any special story behind the band title?

Lostair was formed in 2004 by me (Teo lost) and Emanuele in 2004.
The name is composed by two words Lost and Air, for us LOSTAIR mean all the events of life that we are lost in time and also I was inspired by an album of Kirlian Kamera titled Still Air, I love the terminology with these words and I’m a great fan of Paradise lost, so I decided to call the band LOSTAIR.
We have started like an heavy classic band with much influences from Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Judas Priest etc…, our passion for heavy music has led us to perform live for many years and have tried to evolve our sound maturing over the past years together.

I expect a long reply for this one. Can you please tell us about the concept and lyrical themes of all your previous releases?

Well, Ad Jubilaeum” is a concept album focusing on Christianity and its religious political power from antiquity to the present day.
The first songs of the album, At the hands of black inquisition and Rise, speak of the holy inquisition and the times of the crusades, Where the angels die and Vaticanum instead focus on the Vatican and the power of the church, then proceed with The Bible Code and Trinitity dealing with more complex issues, that is the code hidden behind the rows of the holy bible and the concept of trinity one of the most fascinating religious mysteries in Christian history.
They conclude the album The fall of any gods and Finis dierum, both songs express the uncertainty of human destiny and its fragility toward faith.
Our previous releases “Anguane”(2012) and Perfect dark(2007) instead deal with very different themes ranging from fantasy to more contemporary themes

Is there any special reason for choosing your music conception?

No there’s nothing special, we love the metal music from the classic to extreme, I like to speak with my texts to the people with different ways and every album have different themes to know.

How do you guys manage to create music at all? What challenges do you face while writing and recording an album?

Every song start with an idea, a guitar riff or a melody in our heads then we work on the rhythmic structure, the text and solos is the last step.
Record an album is very difficult for us, we have spent a lot of time for “Ad Jubilaeum”, some songs are been finished in studio and personally I had to redo voices more than once.
Play in studio and play live are two different things.

Your new album “Ad Jubilaeum” to be released next month via Revalve records. How was the experience working on the studio? Any funny or even sad happenings during the studio work?

Life in the studio for me was very hard.
I had to basically manage the full realization of the album and direct the rest of the band.
We recording the evening or the weekends, we all work so it was quite complicated to coincide the work with the studio activity.
Often we were tired and we had to concentrate a lot to sell a good product.
However, we also had fun doing it, it was very nice to see our faces when you missed one part and had to do it again.

You guys are still underground/underrated, although your music has been appreciated by the critics worldwide. What, according to you, is the reason behind it?

We are an Italian band and in our country the metal music never went strong.
We have just found a good record contract that I hope will let us go out of the Italy and play abroad.
Most people also download music without buying it and this for some musicians is very penalizing because it’s very easy to download, listen to a few seconds and then sweep bands that maybe are very valid

Can you throw some light on your past as musicians?

Oh my god, before the lostair each had a musical project, I played with numerous bands and covers, the drummer played with me in a tribute to ozzy osbourne, the bass player played the cover of the pearl jam and the other guitarist still plays with a band which makes rock cover

Tell us about your favorite bands, from whom you gain inspiration. Are you having any favorite artist/band that has emerged from metal/rock soil?

Everyone has his favorite bands, I love the Paradise lost and Septicflesh, the drummer listens to the old Metallica, Testament and Overkill, the bass player listens from the 70s music to the extreme black metal, the other guitar player loves the Aor and the whole hard rock scene of the 1980s.
As current groups we estimate bands such as Trivium, In flames, Lacuna coil, Extrema, Cadaveria, Necrodeath, Melechesh etcc etccc …

How is the metal scene going in your country?

This year there have been many festivals and I have noticed a good attendance, but we are overwhelmed by Italian shit music like Vasco Rossi and Ligabue so much to make two names.
We hope that one day tastes change even if I have serious doubts, we also currently have a real invasion of hip hop and Latin music that personally makes me vomit

Tell us, if you have played abroad.

Are you working on any music videos, might it be videoclip or lyric video?

Our label have realized one lyric video and is working for another, we hope to realize an official videoclip as soon as possible.

Rapid fire section. Just for fun. So just chill, and just type the first thought that comes to your mind when you hear:
* Air – LOST
* Death – CHUCK
* Vulcano – RED
* Paradise – LOST

Thanks a lot for your time! It’s really nice to know more about you. Would you like to say anything to your fans and our readers?
