Interview From Eden To Exile

Hi Tom and From Eden To Exile. Your latest album ‘Modern Disdain’ released last month via Attic records. You must be excited?

We’re extremely excited, this album has been a long time coming since our Bloodstock Festival 2015 appearance and a brief line-up change.
We’ve really worked hard and writing and recording this album and we have good feelings about how successful it will be!

First of all, we would like to know about the formation of the band. When and how was it formed? Do you think the band name ‘From Eden To Exile’ perfectly decribes your music and philosophy?

The band was formed from the ashes of our old band “Apparitions of The End”.
We were a small thrash band who had a lot of fun but called it a day after a fall out between a few band members.
2012 was when From Eden To Exile came about and we started writing and playing live straight away.
The name pretty much describes our music and our message, which is basically how the human race is dragging itself from a state of advancement and perfection (Eden) to the fringes of hell (Exile), as all we do nowadays is destroy and fight each other.
Ironically the band had it’s own mild self-destruction at the end of 2015, after our Bloodstock appearance when we parted ways with our vocalist and bassist.
There were different circumstances with both departures and it was a hard time but we re-grouped and came back stronger than ever and began recording Modern Disdain!

Okay now tell us something about ‘Modern Disdain’, and the lyrical themes behind each track. What are the ideas you wanted to put across?

The overall message behind a lot of the lyrical content is the same as our message.
Mankind’s willingness to abandon its traditions, from religion to basic human goodwill, in place of money, greed and warfare.
There are also themes of a persons individual struggles living in these modern times and how we are personally affected.

Where and when did you record ‘Modern Disdain’? Are you satisfied with it?

We recorded Modern Disdain at the mighty Initiate Audio and Media studios in Wellingborough, UK.
It was a no-brainer to record here as our good friend Neil Hudson (Krysthla, Gutworm) has produced some absolute gold and his knowledge and expert advice is hard to come by nowadays.
Neil did a stellar job on the album and really helped us refined our tracks and pushed us to perform them in the best possible way.
We are extremely satisfied with the results and hope that the general public enjoy it too!

Are you gonna to release some official band merch?

We do already have official band merch available online and at shows.
You can visit our online store at www.fromedentoexile.co.uk/store

We’re looking to add more to this range though as it’s probably one of the things that we hadn’t prioritised as much as the music.
Rest assured we are now prioritising this!

What are From Eden To Exile’s musical and non-musical influences?

Honestly we are quite an odd bunch when it comes to musical influences!
Of course we all love our Metal.
Bands like Lamb of God, Sylosis, Protest the Hero are influences across the board but individually we are quite different.
Our tastes range from Northern Soul to Grime so it’s an interesting mixture!
As far as non-musical, we all have interests in different things, from poetry, photography, films to sports, so really we’re a mixed bunch!

Could you please express your personal views on religion and god?

Personally we aren’t a religious group but we understand and appreciate the importance of spirituality and religion, especially the more ancient religions.
The fact that religion is the root of a lot of Modern Disdain and violence is a worry and something we are passionate about but as far as beliefs we respect others but personally, look at the bigger picture.

Shall we expect some gigs across USA or Europe near time?

We are planning a trip to Europe ASAP and have a few things lined up but the US may have to wait for the time being!
We did have a potential tour of the USA lined up but at the time, we weren’t in a position financially to commit which is a shame but we will one day make the trip!

When shall fans to expect something new from you? Videoclip, single, documentary etc?

We have already released a couple of singles in the form of “Volatile”, which has a lyric video and “Sentiment” as an official video.

We do have more content from the album on it’s way though, so watch this space! Without giving too much away, the guitar nerds out there will love it! 😉

Thanks a lot for the interview. Speak out to your fans, supporters, critics and our readers before we wrap up!

Thanks so much for having us!
We just want to thank everyone really, fans and critics. The response on the album has been phenomenal!
We’ve been lucky to feature in some big magazines like Metal Hammer and Terrorizer and have gained some great feedback and of course fans!
All the positive feedback has been great and we will hopefully see you on our UK tour in August!
