Interview ACID DEATH

Hi, ACID DEATH. Your latest album ‘Balance of Power’ released on March. You must be excited?

Hello there! Of course we are really excited about that release! It is a dream that came into form after many years! You know, this album was intended to be the first full release of the band, but unfortunately this never happened because of the difficulties of the time recorded. Apart from the lack of knowledge and the primitive means to record a decent album, financial difficulties was the main case back then that prevented it to come true, so making a release was, some sort of a small wonder. Unfortunately, ‘Balance of Power’ didn’t have the chance, so it remained as an unfulfilled dream up till now, so you can imagine our excitement!

First of all, we would like to know about the formation of the band. When and how was it formed? Do you think the band name ‘ACID DEATH’ perfectly decribes your music and philosophy?

The band officially started in December/1989. Acid Death is a name that was chosen in the early days of the band in order to state the rage and the opposition to what was considered as a norm in the society, through the eyes of four very young guys. Acid Death also describes the aggressive element of the music that characterized the band. Years have passed, the music direction of the band is not the same with the early days, but you can still listen the same elements that gave the identity of the band and those elements will never be absent from Acid Death.

Okay now tell us something about ‘Balance of Power’, and the lyrical themes behind each track. What are the ideas you wanted to put across?

Actually the lyrics had to do with religion and the general spirit there was and sometimes still exists in life…There are people who enjoy life, have a positive stance, givinnh the 100% of the energy they have to everything they do, on the other hand Apathy is a word that exists and haunts the feeling of hope there is out there. Religion haunts all human actions… It was a let’s say “first touch” on what we would like to say as young personalities.

Where and when did you record ‘Balance of Power’? Are you satisfied with it?

“Balance Of Power” was recorded in February/1992. With a small budget of 40 hours we made to record and mix 7 songs, something really incredible keeping in mind that the average band age was the 19 years, we had no previous experience on professional recording and the 16-channels that the studio had that period. The result was good but we made a professional mastering for this 2017 version, something that wasn’t possible those days. Actually you are listening to a young band that has the temper and the spirit to create something really good…

Are you gonna release some official band merch?

Yes we plan to release some official band t-shirts in order to enhance the release of ‘Balance of Power’, that will accompany the Vinyl and the Cassette form of the album. We haven’t planned something more than that though, because we are currently working on new material for a brand new album.

What are ACID DEATH’s musical and non-musical influences?

If it were to answer the question with only two words we would definitely say everyday life! From interaction with people and every day’s life problems, to literally every kind of music we have the chance to listen to can be a valuable influence that can be depicted in that time in each record. This has always been the case with us and you can confirm it if you listen to all Acid Death’s releases! They are all different with each other, and they all depict the influences of the time of their creation!

Could you please express your personal views on religion and god?

Each one of us has a different perspective of what is god but we all have a similar direction for religion. Religion is something that was made for people in order to explain things that happen and are beyond comprehension. That was the case since the very first days of humanity. The problem is when religion turns into a weapon, when is used to manipulate people and create certain conditions mankind like the fanatics and terrorist from all sides we see today. People should try not to be fanatics on any kind of religion and certainly not kill in the name of God. It is ok to believe in something but keep it to yourself and don’t try to impose it on other people!

Shall we expect some gigs across USA or Europe near time?

We have already made some tours throughout Europe, mainly supporting bands like Coroner, Master and Six Feet Under, and that will also be our primary goal after releasing our new record. For now we have arranging a mini tour in Netherlands and probably other countries too during November. For now we still didn’t have the chance to visit and Tour the USA, but be sure that we will if something comes up! We all want this very much and can’t wait that day comes!

When shall fans to expect something new from you? Videoclip, single, documentary etc?

We are trying to be as active as possible, so besides our latest release “Balance of Power” that is actually the recorded first album of the band, and after our latest album “Hall of Mirrors” we have already released a lyric Video and a Videoclip to support it, along with the latest digital single “Life And Death”. Right now we are working on new material for a new album and we can say that we are half there! Next year will be definitely a great one for Acid Death!
