Interview TYRANT GOATGALDRAKONA

Hi, TYRANT GOATGALDRAKONA. Greetings from Sick and Destroy team. What are you up to these days?
Hi there! Thanks for the interview offer! The band is doing fine. Our debut full length has been re-released on tape and jewel case CD as well last autumn.

Would you please introduce your band to our readers who are not aware of your band and music?
We play bestial death metal in the vein of bands like INCANTATION and ARCHGOAT.

Give us a little insight into the formation of the band. When and how did it happen?
Back in 2009 I joined to a tharsh metal band called MÖRBID CARNAGE. Hellfire was the drummer and he always wanted to create some blasphemous band influenced by BLASPHEMY, ARCHGOAT and BLACK WITCHERY just he never found the right person for it. So when I joined to MÖRBID CARNAGE and become friends later we figured out that we have a lot of things in common so he asked me about a black/death metal formation and of course I liked the idea. The rest is history.

At what age did you guys start playing instruments? Since when are you into metal music?
I’m into metal since 2002. That’s when I first heard Slayer and it immediately blown my mind. I also decided to play guitar shortly after that and got my first guitar which was a classical, then in 2003 I got my first electric guitar and since than I’m a massive fan of extreme music. My bandmate into metal music from the late 80’s and he started on bass and vocals in the early 90’s than several years later learnt how to play drums because of the lack of drummers of the area.

TYRANT GOATGALDRAKONA recently re-released Horns in the Dark from 2013. Tell us something about it. And what about something fresh from you?
It contains 2 songs which were recorded after “Sign of Moloch” and supposed to be on a split tape with another Hungarian death metal band. In the meantime, that band split up and these tracks remained unused. Maybe 2 years ago we tried to find a label to release it as a 7” EP so we also asked Mark Riddick to do a cover for it. There was one label who was interested in to release it but at the end he couldn’t do it. Than Neverheard Distro contacted with Hellfire a possible “Horns in the Dark” tape edition. Than we found it a good idea to add these unreleased songs to it with the EP’s cover. Shortly after Neverheard Distro re-released it in a jewelcase CD together with Caverna Abismal Records.

How has been the response so far by the listeners? Have you started working on new songs already?
The responses are pretty good! Most of them like it, some of them says it’s nothing new just another INCANTATION worship band. We haven’t started writing new songs yet because we currently focusing on our other projects. When we done the recordings for those we will begin the writing of the new songs.

When and where did you play your first gig? How was the experience of going live for the first time?
Our first gig was in our hometown, Szeged at the Inner Awakening Festival in 2014 I reckon and it was a great experience finally go on stage with this band as well! The crowd really dig the show and everything went smooth.

What, according to you, is the secret behind band’s success?
Mainly that this is only a 2-piece band with my good friend who shares the same views in everything makes the process in everything faster. When we decide to achieve something than we usually manage it.

Ever had an epic fail moment during a gig?
Well, we only had two shows so far and nothing happened during the gigs fortunately. If I have to say some sort of fail than we arrived literally in the very last minute to our second show in Bucharest so we just got out from our bus straight to the stage, plugin and play.

If asked to differentiate TYRANT GOATGALDRAKONA from other bands in your country, how would you like to respond to it?
We are the only ones who playing this sort of bestial death metal in the vain of INCANTATION and ARCHGOAT. There are some great acts from Hungary but none of them playing this sort of death metal.

The band has seen no change in line up since the formation of the band. Is it because, everyone in the band is doing his job perfectly? How compatible are band members with each other?
As I mentioned before it’s just a 2-piece band with my friend so it’s much easier to manage anything than like with 5 members. I think the chemistry works perfectly in the band. During the rehearsals I play on the guitar and him on the drums but for live we have a session drummer and bassist. When we are in writing mode we can write 2 new songs during just 1 rehearsal which is pretty good if you ask me compare to my other bands. If any of us would leave the band the whole thing would probably stop, but that won’t happen anytime soon!

Which bands/ artists do you draw your influences from? Which are your favorite local bands?
Well, I’m a huge death metal fanatic and my bandmate is more into black metal but we both have a lot of influences that we share. TYRANT GOATGALDRAKONA’s music mainly influenced by INCANTATION, ARCHGOAT and BLASPHEMY. As for the local bands in Szeged there is a great black metal act called LEPRA or their other band called DUNKELHEIT. There is also a really great thrash/grind horde APOPTOSIS. I would like to also mention my bandmate’s black metal band AHRIMAN which is one of the first black metal bands in Hungary from the early 90’s and my former bands like MÖRBID CARNAGE which is a great thrash assault and GRAVECRUSHER which is a proper death metal.

How do you guys manage jobs and gigs? Also how often do you guys gathering altogether just to fun?
With TYRANT GOATGALDRAKONA the situation is really complicated now because I’m living in the UK and I can’t go home quite often just for gigs or rehearsals. That’s why we don’t have any new materials yet with this and our other bands yet, but we’ll figure it out how to manage it. While I was living in Hungary we easily managed everything and we also gone to the local pubs after the rehearsals and during the weekend. Right now we meet when I’m at home for once in a year.

TYRANT GOATGALDRAKONA is very promising formation. Talking of your future, 5 years from now, where do you see yourself?
Thank you! Well, I really hope within the next 5 years we will be able to finish our next album. haha but to be completely honest with you I have no idea where we’ll be 5 years later.

Well, that’s it. Thanks a lot for your time. Speak out to all your fans and supporters.
Thank you for the interview and for your patience with the answers! Thanks to everyone who supported us in any way! Support the underground! TOTAL DEATH!
