Give a brief history of ERA 9, music style, and the members.
The band has been together for 6 years, but members have changed, and we found our sound in 2016. Jona, Marco and Joe met in high school, all sharing the same passion for music, and that progressed to the start of a band, and lead us to where we are today. Lalla was in a “rival” band from our city, so we all knew of each other in the MTL music scene. Joe and Jona had actually seen Laurie perform with her old band years before she joined Era 9, through mutual friends. We all had a passion for music since we were kids, and that brought us all together.
Our roots come from Rock music and that’s how we started. Over the years, we’ve grown with experience, playing shows, listening to different genres, etc. Coming from Montreal, we’ve learned to appreciate all styles of music. We live in a city that is very multi-cultural and has a very diverse music scene. Our city is really big on Hip-Hop and EDM and we wanted to break down all stylistic boundaries and merge all the styles of music we love, creating what we call “TrapRock”.
Give in more detail, some information about your coming album “Gravity”?
We’ll be releasing a full length album called “Gravity” this Spring. As we’ve mentioned, we are very open-minded and love all genres of music, so we decided to make music that we love, creating “TrapRock”. We hope to reach out to different audiences rather than just the usual rock crowd. We love how our music can bring everyone together, whether it’s fans of rock, metal, hip-hop, trap/EDM or pop, everyone can enjoy a different song on this album, and we’re excited to share it with the world.
ERA 9 has not signed with the label, are you looking for label deal now?
With this new sound the we’re going for, we plan to change the usual Rock music radio formats, and hope to get interest from anyone who believes in our music as much as we do!
What is the difference between your latest and the very first records?
A lot has changed over the years. Our musical taste has grown, and we’ve come to love and appreciate many genres of music. We started off as a regular Hard Rock band, but we love Hip-Hop, Trap and EDM so much, that we decided to put it all together. Heavy riffs, epic EDM build-ups, powerful chorus vocals and badass Trap drops is what we’re all about now!
What inspires ERA 9 music and lyric writing? What does ERA 9 lyrics talk about?
What inspires us most in terms of writing is usually how we’re feeling and what we’re going through in the moment. Whether it’s struggles, love, heartbreak, anger, or society, etc, we all have emotions and stories to tell. In terms of music, It’s more of genres of music that inspire us most, rather than just bands. The core of our music will be hard rock, with heavy riffs, but we enjoy changing up the basic usual structure of songs to an EDM/Trap type of structure.
Do you play live often? Do you like abroad gigs?
Yes we play live often and we love it! We tour a lot, and have been doing so for a few years now; mainly in the united states.
How often does the band practice and work on new material?
When we’re in writing and recording process, we do not practice. We focus on the creation only. When we have a hometown gig or when we’re gearing up to leave on tour, that’s when we practice non-stop! I’d say about 4 days a week, 2-3 hours a day.
How did the band come up with the name ERA 9 and tell what does it means for you?
The number 9 represents liberty and positivity. We are a new era of music that isn’t just for one person. We cater to all who open themselves to it! We value creative freedom in music and we promote open mindedness and imagination. Hence, ERA 9. We are a “TrapRock” band that is male and female fronted.
What does the band plan on doing in near time?
We’ve been writing new material and gearing up to take over the world in 2017. We’ll be touring North America as of the month of May, promoting our new album “Gravity”.
