Hail Matthew! welcome to Sick And Destroy. Before we start the interview, I would like you to introduce yourself to our readers. To begin with where are you from and a brief history about your band?
I am from PENNSYLVANIA. I have been here my entire life. Probably die here too. Ha! The band is a session group I got together to do this album. I am not sure who will be in on the next one yet though. I wrote the music, played drums, bass and mixed it for the most part. Jim did guitar, mastering and some mixing. Steve did guitars and keyboards and helped mix as well. We recorded everything ourselves and I made the video. So… we are our own crew as well I guess you could say.
How would you describe your music? And what bands have influenced you the most?
I would say my music is old style doomy thrash metal? I guess. It is tough to say because it comes quite naturally to create, so I don’t put much thought into the style when writing. That is just what happens. My major influences I would have to say are, MEGADETH, JUDAS PRIEST, MAIDEN, SLAYER, KING DIAMOND, B.O.C.
How many and which albums/demos has HABITUAL SINS released so far?
This is our debut album, though the guys and I have had success in other acts like DOFKA and ICARUS WITCH.
Which ones happen to be your favorite songs off the new album?
I think RAVENS would have to be my favorite. Maybe FAR BEYOND HADES.
Do you feel that HABITUAL Sins music has changed over the years and how?
The new songs I am working on now have many similarities to the last stuff, but I feel it has a bit more feel to it. I may take a different lyrical direction as well, I am not sure.
How much time does it take for HABITUAL SINS to record an album?
Well the first one took several years. Buying gear, traveling to record, but this one should take about a year if all goes well.
Tell us something more about the latest album “Personal Demons” , which was recently released.
PERSONAL DEMONS is my way of getting back out there after such a long break. I would like to introduce myself to a heavier audience yet keep my old WITCH fans happy.
I think it is a nice mix.
Whats next? Working on any new album? If so, some details please.
Yes. working on a new one. I have 5 songs so far. Doing drums at home this time. Really taking time getting my studio together.
Any tours, gigs for promotion of latest album?
Not as of yet. I am more interested in getting another album out before I do anything else. Though it would be nice.
Has HABITUAL SINS done any opening acts for other major heavy weight bands? If yes, then when and where?
No shows as of yet but my last band ICARUS WITCH had the pleasure of opening for some of the heavy hitters. DIO, DIANNO, DORO, MALMSTEEN back in the day. Not really sure where. Ha! kinda blurry…
What do you feel about the Metal Scene there in your country?
I think the scene is good. I have always been happy with the true metal scene. It is just where it needs to be.
Any messages for the readers?
Thank you to all my fans for sure. I hope you enjoy the new release.
Keep true to your vision.
