Hail Ciano, welcome to Sick And Destroy. Before we start the interview, I would like you to introduce yourself to our readers. To begin with where are you from and a brief history about your band?
Hello Jacob thank you for your hospitality!!
I have been the guitarist in ANCILLOTTI since the beginning of the band.
ANCILLOTTI are a true family affair! we encompass the history of Italian heavy metal, the band members have been on the scene for many years. The band was formed around 2009 but over the time we’ve played a lot together and finally a couple of years after our recording debut we are here with a new album “Strike Back” and a new story to write.
How would you describe your music? And what bands have influenced you the most?
Well… No way out… Metal!
We like the anthemic choruses, monumental and hammering riffs and guitar solos ….. always in the best classic metal tradition.
Our list of influences would be too long to mention, but I think that the bands that most unite us under the same flag are Ozzy and Black Sabbath.
How many and which albums/demos has ANCILLOTTI released so far?
The first record was “Down this road together” an EP self produced and printed in a limited edition of 300 copies that was sold out in a very short time. In 2013 thanks to the success of the “Down this road together”, we signed a deal with Pure Steel Records for our debut album “The chain goes on” released in 2014 worldwide and last but not the least in 2016 we are back with the new album „Strike Back”.
Which ones happens to be your favourite songs? Of ANCILLOTTI and personal.
Mmm a difficult question… we like all the songs we have written but if I must choose some favourites of the band and myself I would say: Legacy of Rock, Warrior, Immortal Idol, Bang your Head, Burn Witch Burn, To Hell with you, Lonely Road .. .. but the list could go on.
Do you feel that ANCILLOTTI’s music has changed over the years and how?
When you live many hours with the band on tour or in studio your music inevitably changes a bit.
Today I know exactly when I compose a new riff how Bid, Bud or Brian could play out my idea and this helps me to compose the right music for us and we still have a lot of new ideas to develop.
How much time does it take for ANCILLOTTI to record an album?
Normally at the end of the tour we already have the ideas for twelve / fourteen songs for the new release.
Then we work together in studio to arrange and select the best songs.
So normally in about a year we are ready to go into the studio and start recording.
Tell us something more about the latest album ‘Strike Back’.
The new album Strike Back delivers the classic and traditional heavy metal goods, and fans won’t be disappointed. The new album has gotten amazing reviews from renowned magazines, blogs and websites all over the world and has been elected by many of these as one of the best 2016 Heavy Metal albums! We can only say one word… Thank you!!
We have seen on tour metal kids and their fathers bang their heads with us.
And this is great!! As I say the new album is a traditional metal music but played with a contemporary feel and I think the our fans know what we have in mind.
Whats next? Working on any new album? If so, some details please.
No… at the moment we are on tour in europe promoting the new album… of course we have some new riffs in mind but it’s to early to talk about the next release.
Any tours, gigs for promotion of latest album? Any future plans for playing in Europe or USA?
We have begun the Strike Back Tour in october 2016 in Italy and on march we will travel around europe as special guest of Ross The Boss band (ex Manowar) + headlining dates.
Some summer festivals are booked so… do not miss the opportunity to catch the band live.
Unfortunately we have no USA dates scheduled.
Has ANCILLOTTI done any opening acts for other major heavy weight bands? If yes, then when and where?
We have had the pleasure in the last few years to open for many well known bands… Uriah Heep, Gamma Ray, Loudness, Primal Fear, Grim Reaper, our friends Tygers of Pan Tang , Vicious Rumors and many more….. sorry but at the moment I can’t remember exactly where and when…. anyway great experiences and with many of them we have also become friends!!
What do you feel about the Metal Scene there in your country?
Italy is full of talented musicians and nowadays the business situation connected to the metal market has changed a lot, the bands finally can play outside of Italy and the scene is growing…
An amazing time… today the main problems are with the clubs… a lot of bands and few venues.
Any messages for the readers?
Thank you very much Jacob and thanks to Sick And Destroy for your hospitality.
I’d like to thank all the metal fans out there that support the band and have bought and will buy our new album!
See you on tour, keep the faith and… Strike Back!!
