Interview SRD

Hi, Srd. Your album Smrti sel will be released on February 3rd. You must be excited?

Hi. Yes we are very excited because It’s our debut release and it had some good responses in our country and now we are looking forward to see what the other parts of the world have to say about it.

First of all, we would like to know about the formation of the band. When and how was it formed? Do you think the band name ‘Srd’ perfectly decribes your music and philosophy?

It all started in the year 2012 when I started to record my own music under the project called Terrorfront. I released an EP Terror Arise through Mater tenebrarum records in 2014 and after that I was starting to look for potential band members. Sadly I couldn’t find any. I just decided to write and record more music and last year (beginning of 2016) I finished album which is now named Smrti sel. It was also somewhere around that time that I decided to change the name for the sake of originality and look for people who have common views on philosophy, music and art. The wolf pack came together sometime in august 2016 and we started to have live shows after that. The name »Srd« (which means wrath in slovenian language) I think It couldn’t be any more perfect for our music but the name should speak for itself with the music it delivers, therefore I will not spoil why we picked such name for our band. People who like what we do can look up for lyrics and seek for their own perspective if they are troubled with the question mark.

Okay now tell us something about Smrti sel, and the lyrical themes behind each track. What are the ideas you wanted to put across?

Smrti sel deals with death and its forms of manifestation. I see no point to discuss each and every song, I can only say that our lyrics are inspired by war, misanthropy and biblical tales.

Where and when did you record Smrti sel? Are you satisfied with it?

Smrti sel was recorded in 2015 in private facilities of our home region Prekmurje. If we weren’t satisfied we would not release the album.

Are you gonna to release some official band merch?

At the moment you can order our album and Smrti sel t-shirt via On parole records (https://www.on-parole.com/shop/view/srd-smrti-sel-digi-cd) but in the future we will of course release more designs.

What are Srd’s musical and non-musical influences?

In terms of black metal the first names that come up are Marduk, Watain, Taake, slovenian Dekadent and Somrak and of course many more. We also listen to a lot of other music, artists such as Roky Erickson, Devil’s blood, 16 horsepower etc. Non musical are philosophical and historical books by authors such as Alberto Tenenti, movies from Ingmar Bergman or paintings from Pieter Bruegel for example.

Could you please express your personal views on religion and god?

It’s a force used for deceit and abuse.

Shall we expect some gigs across USA or Europe near time?

We are not planning gigs in USA yet but there are some plans to hit a few European stages in the near future.

When shall fans to expect something new from you? Videoclip, single, documentary etc?

When something new comes up we will inform our fans as soon as possbile. There are plans for future live appearances, music releases and merch but let’s not get ahead of ourselfs yet.
