Thrash metal from Brazil, this sounds always exciting for me, because Brazilian thrash metal is kick ass! I knew Woslom for a while, so it was pleasure for me to talk with Fernando Oster the former band and drummer!
Hi! Tell me about Woslom. Why did you decide to name the band with such title? What kind of ideas do you explore?
Well, this was long time ago when we were still at high school. We did not have any intention about that, but finally was a great name as if you search for it you will find only things related to the band. It’s a totally created name without any references.
“A Near Life Experience” album was released several months ago. How does that make you feel? Do you feel you have put album into masses without any wishes to change something now?
This is out third álbum and we are giving continuity on our career. We think that this is absolutely our best result till now. We are not worried about the masses. Metal is an underground style and we make music for the heart and not for the masses.
Tell me more about “A Near Life Experience”? Album ideas etc…
This album started to be written in july 2015 and it’s inspired in some human behavior. Songs talking about aggression, violence, disease, humanity, social inequality and so on.
We recorded at the same studio as we have done before with our own production and we were really satisfied with the final results.
All your albums were released by Punishment18 recs. Are you completely satisfied with this cooperation? Wouldn’t you like to change the label now?
Yes, all our 3 albuns were released by them, however just this third one was released in the same time of the official release. The other 2 were reeditions. At this moment we are satisfied, we have a great co-work and cooperation each other. Both sides are free to choose where to go, so we are free to decide our future as well as they are.
Why did Francisco left the band? And are you glad to have Andre in line-up? Did he brought some fresh ideas to your new album or he did just played and that’s all?
Well, this is a long story and what I can say is that it was Francisco decision we did not want that. Hopefully we could find Andre and we are really happy with him. He could contribute a lot for the new album and is a full member of the band.
Where do you take all inspiration from?
Preferebly about tour day by day, the way we live and things which happen in our lives.
In your opinion, what is the best way to define Woslom’s sound?
Woslom is a brazilian Thrash metal playing with influences of Bay Area Thrash of the 80’. We can be direct and technical at the same time.
So, are you on hiatus now, just relaxed and looking for album feedbacks, or did you started to compose new stuff immediately?
Well, actually we are not on a hiatus, after the release in April we got on tour over Europe and Russia to promote the new album, also we will be playing on our home country and till the end of the year we will be n South America touring. In 2017 we have some opportunity to tour other countries. Besides that we have video clips and other productions on the way. We are very busy at this moment, so new stuff just for 2018 or later.
What are your main musical influences? How huge is their influence in your sound?
Basicaly the Bay Area Thrash Metal of the 80’ together with New York Scene and also some Germanic Metal. Bands like Testament, Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Nuclear Assault, Kreator, Sodom, Destruction and many others.
Is there some well-known musician in particular that you would like to use in one of your upcoming albums?
We never thought about that. We always tried to make by ourselves. Maybe some musician of our local scene would be great. We can’t say right now, but we never know about the future.
What is your personal strategy for making your music heard by a larger audience?
Being true, we are not worried about that anymore. Today the main vehicles are the internet and digital media, so all our stuff are on that and we are a band of the road, we play as much as we can in our country and outside that. We are already doing everything we can by our own. The next step is having some partners or companies supporting us for that. But we are not worried about the business, we make this cause of the art, cause it is in our blood.
Do you have any other hobby beside music? And what are you in the common life, what are you doing to survive?
We don’t take music as a hobby, we take it serious. We can’t survive about the band, but we can win some money because of that. We have other parallel jobs related or not to the music that we can win some money to pay our bills and survive. Hopefully the band can walk by itself.
Are you all supported by your relatives towards your devotion to music?
Today we are. In the beginning was a bit difficult, but now after so many years, they are used to.
How’s the metal scene in your local area right now? Is it easy to play gigs, to buy records etc there these days?
Our local scene is amazing. We have such great bands in all type of metal, for sure we have a such rich scene in terms of quality. If you are in an active band of the scene you can easily find concerts to play, but you need to work and make part of it.
Thank you for answering my questions, see ya on the road!
Thank you for the opportunity to show a bit more about Woslom. See ya!
