Second To sun is pretty interesting example of instrumental metal, reach as for ideas and etc, now we’ll know more about them!
Hi! Tell me about Second To Sun. Why did you decide to name the band with such title? What kind of ideas do you explore?
Hi! The name mean the second planet from the Sun, the morning star as it called in Fino-Ugric ethnical tradition. It’s a symbol of fertility and success. Taking into account the cultural element in our music, it was quite logical to take such name.
What is your last album so far? How does that make you feel when it was released? Do you feel you have put album into masses without any wished to change something now?
Just about couple of weeks ago upon the request from our fans we reissued our first album Gal Agnostiske Drommer. It has raw black metal sound and suppose to help people which put unreasonable tags on us to understand that such tags like progressive metal or so are far from us.
And what about the last record The First Chapter… I think everything is great. Damn, we didn’t expect such support from the west. We sold over 2000 digital copies in Russia and the record was in two national charts. That’s great, I don’t know, I think it’s awesome. I wouldn’t like to change anything of course.
Tell me more about “GladWeHaveAnUnderstanding (Bones cover)”? Main ideas to create it and etc…
Bones likes black metal, apparently, and I thought that now it’s time to make a kind of hip-hop black metal thing. It worked out very well, everybody is happy. That’s the main motivation. And the second is that we have surprised some people. Actually, overall, we always make music so that those who listen to it would say “Wow, damn, it’s like from another planet!” Here we managed it that way.
Where do you take all inspiration from?
I think it’s still scandinavian black metal as for music.
In your opinion, what is the best way to define Second To Sun’s sound?
Just call it metal or instrumental metal. We tried to frame it but it annoys the sickest persons. So, just metal.
So, are you on hiatus now, just relaxed and looking for album feedbacks, or did you started to compose new stuff immediately?
We already have materials for a new release. Seven handpicked atmospheric and melodic tracks. There is quite a bit of feedback, can’t follow all of that, so I’m trying to keep track on feedback from those who are with the band from the beginning.
What are your main musical influences? How huge is their influence in your sound?
Scandinavian metal, of the most, of course. If you listen to our music it will be very easy to notice that.
Is there some well-known musician in particular that you would like to use in one of your upcoming albums?
No. I never had such aims.
What is your personal strategy for making your music heard by a larger audience?
For Russia it’s enough just to remove the vocals. But what about worldwide, the strategy “do so, that a listener will be amazed” works quite well.
Do you have any other hobby beside music?
I like to read. Different literature from Franklin to Marvel comics. I like to listen forest’s silence, have a walk in the woods. Very conciliating. Cople of years ago I traveled to the central Russia, places what our songs are about. Just unbelievable, that forest and mysticism.
Are you all supported by your relatives towards your devotion to music?
That’s a personal question, I don’t want to answer this one in detail, but, to be honest, no.
How’s the metal scene in Russia right now? Is it easy to play gigs, to buy records etc there these days? As far as I know – there is something like holy war again metal music?
Russia is a very complicated country, but we are moving forward. As we say here “our man harness horses for long, but runs fast.” We harnessed for long.
Thank you for answering my questions, see ya on the road! / Lukasz
Thanks for the questions! And keep listen to Second to Sun.
