Just a metal, based on groove, thrash and death metal tunes! Bound By Fate from USA!
Hi! Tell me about Bound By Fate. Why did you decide to name the band with such title? What kind of ideas do you explore?
Bound By Fate was started back in 2008, as a hobby basically… I (Redbeard Phil) just wanted to find musicians who just wanted to have fun and make some music. The name came about because the very first Bound By Fate line-up consisted of musicians I (Redbeard Phil) had worked with in different projects in the past. The ideas that we explore are various… not much is “taboo” really. Bound By Fate is, also a band that is very fan oriented… you can always find us hanging out before, and after shows, with friends and fans… after all… whatever level of success this band achieves, is ALL because of them…
“Steadfast” album was released several months ago. How does that make you feel? Do you feel you have put album into masses without any wishes to change something now?
We’re proud of the “Steadfast” album… and very excited about being with Sliptrick Records… we listen to our earlier material, and we can see the evolvement from more of a grind core to what we originally intended… which is mixing the rhythm and harmony of “old school” with the sound and brutality of “new school” metal. There’s always things you could find to change, once you go back and listen to your music… but, all in all, the only thing we would have liked to have done was have more songs on the album.
Tell me more about “Steadfast”? Album ideas etc…
We chose”Steadfast” because it best reflects who and how Bound By Fate is as a band. Strong for our families, strong for each other, strong for our city and Metal as a whole. We’ve weathered family crises, lineup changes, the indifference of others, you name it; we’ve stood through them all. We chose the shield to symbolize that line of defense that doesn’t break; stuck in the ground, it signifies a position its owner won’t retreat from, no matter what attacks may come. That’s who and what we aspire to be, in a world of constant change and uncertainty.
Where do you take all inspiration from?
We draw from personal experiences, our thoughts and feelings, and from current events in the news… both locally, and internationally.
In your opinion, what is the best way to define Bound By Fate’s sound?
I (Redbeard Phil) would say Bound By Fate’s sound is a “grass roots” style with a good mix of the rhythm and harmony of “old school” with the sound and brutality of “new school” metal… basically, a no-frills granite-block metal, like a straight right hand to the face.
So, are you on hiatus now, just relaxed and looking for album feedbacks, or did you started to compose new stuff immediately?
We will be taking a short hiatus soon so our singer (Dan Cameron) can get married… but, otherwise, we are constantly busy writing and playing shows.
What are your main musical influences? How huge is their influence in your sound?
We have many influences we draw from individually, and mesh together as evenly as possible. Those influences are from artists ranging in various genres of music… Jimi Hendrix, Pantera, Hatebreed, Job For A Cowboy, and so on. Our influences are really a big part of our sound… but we also try to keep our sound from sounding too much like any one in particular.
Is there some well-known musician in particular that you would like to use in one of your upcoming albums?
Honestly, there a few… I (Redbeard Phil) would think Phil Anselmo doing some vocals would sound great with Dan’s vocals, I would like to do something with my cousin, Frank Novenic (Hatebreed), because our styles are similar, yet different enough where we would sound good. I know our drummer, Tim Seale, would LOVE to kick it with Vinnie Paul (his big influence).
What is your personal strategy for making your music heard by a larger audience?
Our personal strategy is really self-promotion… out the ass. You HAVE to push your band, your music, and get yourselves out there on stages in as many cities, states, and countries as possible… by any and all ways available.
Do you have any other hobby beside music?
Yes, we all have our hobbies outside of music. Dan, our singer, loves his baseball (especially the Cleveland Indians), Cliff (guitarist) does martial arts, draws, and is into comics, Shaggy (bass) is very active with his community and church, Tim (drummer) cooks, Redbeard Phil (guitar) likes working with his hands, playing with his children, movies, and comics. Outside hobbies are good to have…
Are you all supported by your relatives towards your devotion to music?
Yes, I would say our families support what we do… them understanding it?… not so sure… (ha ha).
How’s the metal scene in Cleveland right now? Is it easy to play gigs, to buy records etc there these days?
Honestly, the Cleveland scene is full of great fans, and talented musicians… it’s just over saturated with acts, and that makes drawing crowds difficult because you could have 3-5 different shows in one night. Getting gigs in Cleveland CAN be difficult (but not impossible) if you’re unknown and starting out… or if you don’t know people who can help you out… and that’s not difficult, unless you’re an ass. Cleveland does have some die-hard metal fans, and they are some of the better fans to play for… they love to party it up and have fun.
Thank you for answering my questions, see ya on the road! / Lukasz
You are welcome Lakasz, happy to anytime… it was a pleasure. Hope to see ya on the road.
Keep rockin’… Redbeard Phil”
